We have got fuschia pink (almost purple) peonies in our flower bed. In the meantime, I’m trying to find a lighter pink shade. It’s a short growing season in Alberta — I’m going to a greenhouse in Sherwood Park tomorrow to pick up some perennials.
We’d like to get enough flowers to cut next year for one bridesmaid, two flower-girls and 15 centre-pieces (to be arranged in mason jars). My only worry is finding the right varieties that would bloom before summer (late spring). The peonies passed the timing test, but not hollyhocks. (The hollyhocks just came out this week) Apple tree blossoms are pretty, but are long gone before mid-June.
The only flowers my Future Mother-In-Law told me not to get are daisies as they could stain my dress. The colours I am looking for are mostly spring/cream pink, yellow and ivory-white. (Main colours are teal and ivory, but we don’t really have a strict colour theme — hence, we are looking for lighter coloured flowers for contrast.) Ideally, I would like to grow some baby’s breath plant, but am uncertain about the timing of its blooms.
If you have got any complementary perennial suggestions, kindly please share! If you could include a picture of the plant and how-to-care instructions/links (i.e. plant in sunny spots or shady; types of soil it likes), I would be so grateful! (This way, our garden will have more sweet-smelling flowers and see more bumble-bees pollinating away, while saving $ on flowers.)
