After been engaged for 7 months, my FH and I finally decided on a wedding in Oregon. We (mostly I) have been changing our minds about whether to have the wedding in Calgary or Oregon. We love Oregon so much (planning on retiring there haha) and we thought it would be fitting to have a small family and close friends only wedding in our favourite state!
So, I need help!! We are going to be renting 2-3 huge homes to accomodate everyone, and hoping to have the ceremony in the backyard of one of those homes as well as the reception! d
I was hoping I could get suggestions of the following things:
~We are looking for suggestions of a beautiful location that isn’t too far from Portland, because our guests will have to fly into Portland, and we want something that isn’t TOO far to drive to.
~Companies that will either pick us up at the airport and drive us to the destination, or rent us large SUVs to drive ourselves.
Any other suggestions for anything wedding related would be so fantastic!
Thank you so much!

Congrats on making a location decision!
I say…Columbia River Gorge!! There are probably lots of homes you could rent in that area. And depending on where you are in the gorge it should only be 15-30 minute drive from the airport.
As for caterers, bakery, etc…do you have a particular budget for each? It varies so much so it’s hard to give suggestions without knowing a budget!
I’m hoping to retire in Oregon too! On the Oregon coast 🙂

Thanks for the reply PDX! I will check out the Columbia River Gorge right now! I had our budgets all worked out for our Calgary wedding, but totally forgot to think of it for the Oregon one! Our overall budget is $15,000, but about $3000 is going to be for the accommodations for our guests.
We are expecting no more than 35 guests to attend, including ourselves.
For catering, I would say around $5000 (including lunch and dinner for the 2.5 days that the guests will be staying with us.)
Cake – I’m not too picky about the cake, probably $500-$700.
Oh and how could I forget about a photographer!!! That’s super important! If anyone can reccommend a great photographer that would be so helpful! Budget for that is probably $2000, for full day coverage, not too concerned about getting albums or anything like that, but proofs would be great.
DJ – $1000? I have no idea what they run…
Won’t need a lot of flowers, just 2 bouquets for myself and my Maid/Matron of Honor and then bouteneers for FH and BM ( I know I spelt that wrong :D) and then maybe enough for simple centerpieces and corsages for mums. $500?
Officiant I’m not sure how much that would run, and the SUVs or limos, I suppose that depends on where the venue is going to be 🙂
All of these are rough estimates, as long as it stays under $15,000!

I don’t know if you consider Forest Grove to be too far away from Portland, but we investigated renting a few large homes there. The two houses we looked at are both listed on the VRBO website under Forest Grove and are near each other. The one has a big backyard and would be perfect for a wedding. Good luck!

Thanks Rachel, I will look into it!!

My daughter got married at Helvetia Vineyard and Winery in Helvetia area of Hillsboro, outside of Portland. (Also near Forest Grove) if you want to rent those houses someone else wrote about. Charge for the vineyard is $20.00 per adult for bottle of wine, and FREE use of the Vineyard. It is wonderful for a small wedding. The people are very accomodating. If you are interested, contact me-write Helvetia in the subject heading so I know that it’s not spam. I will give you more info and share photos. We hired the BEST DJ –I will look up his info-I have it around here somewhere, he was sooo good. He had everybody dancing all the time–even my two aunts aged 6? and 7? didn’t stop dancing! My daughter and SIL friends said it was the BEST wedding they had ever been to. I also had a good caterer-$14pp, so if you need some assistance in finding local PDX info I don’t mind helping out!

I just PMd you. I have a ton of recommendations for the area. I got married in the Gorge last year and I am a wedding planner for a company that operates venues in Portland and the Gorge.

Ok, for a photographer I totally recommend Holli True- she’s doing my wedding and she’s in your price range! She’s based out of Eugene, but hasn’t even charged travel fees since I live closer to Portland. http://www.hollitrue.com
Another photographer from Portland that I’ve gotten some RAVE reviews about is Daniel Stark. I believe he’s actually had a few pictures published in National Geographic. http://danielstarkphotography.com/
Hope this helps you- Oregon is a fabulous location for a wedding, if I do say so myself! 😛

Thank you so much for all your suggestions ladies!!! I’m going to look into all of them now!
Another question – what is the weather usually like in late September/early October in the Portland area? Still decent enough to have an ourdoor ceremony?
