When ordering dreses online, is it best to have them shipped to my home in Canada or should I ship them to a town just accross the border and pick them up?
Are there any sites that are more friendly to Canadians?
Are there shipping companies better than others such as DHL, UPS, USPS, TNT?
What should I expect the duties and taxes if I use a US site?

If you pick them up across the border, you still have to declare them at the border and pay HST if you have not been out of the country long enough to have an exemption. Duty is rarely charged anymore since NAFTA, only taxes (HST).
If you decide to have them shipped, use the US Postal Service. UPS and FedEx often charge outrageous brokerage fees. If you have them mailed, Revenue Canada decides whether they bill you for taxes or not.

It depends… If you do a comparison between shipping it to Canada and shipping to the US, how much would you save? Now, if you add tax and the price of gas to go pick it up, is it still cheaper? If it is, I’d buy and ship across the border. I notice it says you are in Ottawa – there’s a store in Ogdensburg, NY that lets you ship to them directly, and then you go pick the stuff up. They charge $5 every week they hold onto a parcel.
If you do decide to ship to Canada, don’t ship UPS. UPS always has brokerage fees, where as I have found USPS (postal service) and Fedex more often than not do not charge brokerage fees.

I think I’m going to send them to Ogdensburgh. It’s a 45 min drive from my house. I will save $360 total by doing this so definately worth the drive and gas. Also the HST crossing the border will be significantly less than buying them at a salon in Ottawa since the dresses are significantly less.
