we were all set for Bali in Nov 2017, but with the current volcano activity, possible eruption, and thousands of people evacuated. we’re thinking of rebooking. Any ideas of warm weather destinations (with a beach for scuba) ideas that haven’t been completely ravaged by hurricanes lately? Bali is probably ok, but I don’t think I’d be able to relax knowing there’s vocano activity.
the Caribbean is out, Mexico is out…ideas please!
or would you just wait until spring for other locations (last year we went to europe: london, paris, florence, rome, barcelona, madrid, dominican republic and hawaii)
ETA: we are flying from San Diego

I would suggest to check other parts of Indonesia. It is an archipelago with thousands of islands in the equator. Bali is the just most popular tourist spot in Indonesia, but there is lots of other beautiful islands there that is as beautiful or better than Bali. There is Lombok (next to Bali that doesn’t get Mt. Agung’s eruption effect), Raja Ampat (world class diving spot), Sulawesi, Sumba, Gili Trawangan, Flores, Belitung, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, some part of Papua, etc.

FrenchToastnCoffee : Better than Hawaii and yet not too far away and very untouched and beautiful (no crowds, no traffic, empty beaches all to yourself!!)… The Cook Islands! Still on the sme timezone as Hawaii too! http://www.downunder-travel.com/south-pacific/cook-islands/cook-islands-holiday-escape.aspx

Hawaii! Have you been to all the islands? We went to Oahu last month and if you rent a car you can explore the island and find lots of beaches that are almost empty!

I visit Bali almost every year due to its proximity to Australia. Places that I have visited that have a similar vibe are
1. Philippines (Boracay)
3. Thailand (Phuket, Phi Phi Islands, Khao Lak, Koh Samui, Hua Hin)
4. Malaysia (Penang)

We just got back from Costa Rica! It was beautiful, and we had a blast in an All Inclusive. May watch weather there too though. Tropica storm Nate just passed through the northern part, and have heard a few stories of flooding.

FrenchToastnCoffee : Definately consider Thailand. I love Krabi – less touristy and love Phi Phi islands. I also went to Cambodia last year. I didnt expect to like it and absolutely loved it. The Angkor complex and the temples are outrageous and the hotels are completely luxe. Look at the Amman, the Sofitel, or the Raffles. i love the Sofitel. I also stayed at the Le Meredian and it was very nice too. You can go to Koh Saloem or one of those private islands. Theres a resort that is famous. Maybe 6 senses? I just got married in Maui and loved it too if you are looking for less exotic.

FrenchToastnCoffee : not to get too personal but be careful where you go if you plan to start trying..I just got back from India where pregnant women are not supposed to go Bc of Zika. Bali is in that category too. I can’t start trying until 2 months from now since I was there. Look in CDC webpage

Thailand- Ko Samui, then a short boat ride to Ko Tao for scuba diving. Second the Philippines which is just stunning, but harder to get to.
Fiji is also on my bucket list!
