I replied to your other thread about your current photographer.

I voted here for Amanda, Elybrothers don’t have one photo of a ‘groom’ looking at the camera in their engagement gallery…. I think their style is more fashion/edgey where Amada’s is more romantic and storytelling, which I get the feeling is going to provie you with more the feel you are after.

You could explain to them your current situation and see if either are happy to do a quick E-shoot with you which you pay for but are not obligated to book the wedding unless you are completely happy?

I loved the photos from Amanda. I didn’t see your previous post, but her photos are super romantic (which I like).

@Shockolate:  I’m a pro photographer, here are my two cents:

Ely brothers lack of posing, lack of photoshop are woresome. People end up looking clumsy and drunk instead of natural. There are also a lot of photos with little mistakes, clipped feet, distracting foreground. Your website is where you post your BEST shots so that is disappointing.

Amanda is pretty good but it looks like she is using auto focus selection, meaning sometimes her focus is wrong because the camera guessed what you were trying to shoot, like the photo of the plates the glasses are in focus, when I assume she was trying to show the plate setting. So other than the odd focus fail I think Amanda would be great!

I liked Ely Brothers more. I found their style to be cleaner, and more in focus. A lot of Amanda’s pictures were grainy and blurry (slightly out of focus). That’s just my opinion though, I dont think you could go wrong with either.

@Shockolate:   Another photographer here.  If I had to pick one of the above, I’d choose Amanda.  Certainly her if you want the soft, out of focus, fuzzy look to your wedding pictures.  In her shots, the people looked like real, natural people.

In Ely’s shots, I don’t know quite how to describe it, but I was more aware of what was wrong with the image than of the people in it.  How many heads does he have to chop off!!  LOL

    Are there any other choices?

@Shockolate:   What part of the country?  The Amanda site said “midwest” but nothing specific, unless I missed it.

Personally, and I am a photographer, I found Ely Brothers work a great deal more creative. Sure, there’s only so much chopping off of heads that I need to see and in some cases I’ve have done more cropping but generally speaking their work was much more exciting and the portfolio showed clear evidence of ability with long exposures, low light etc., so I suspect their technical abilities are higher.

Amanda’s work is pretty but very “Pinteresting”. It doesn’t excite me at all. I’m also not convinced that all those soft, glowy shots were focussed adequately. Hence the intense filtering.

@Shockolate:  I’m suprised at what some ppl here are saying about http://www.elybrothers.com/ – I totally think their work is outstanding! Their work is colourful, clean and emotional, I actually think their way of cropping is fantastic and original. I love how it draws the eye. My vote is Ely Brothers!

@Shockolate:   Yes, it makes sense.  You seem to be looking for offbeat, romantic but still good technically.
