- Wedding: June 2012
A little background. We are encores and planned a Destination Wedding in Jamaica in November. I had to leave my job for a chronic health condition which affects my mobility last October. After finding out it takes 8-10 weeks to get marriage certificate after wedding in Jamaica, we didn’t want to wait because my Cobra cost eight hundred dollars a month.
We had an intimate courthouse wedding in June. We still planned the Jamaica wedding only as vow renewal. It was to be just the two of us. I had knee surgery in September and have had great difficulty getting new leg braces. We had to move the trip to January.
For awhile now, I just have been wanting to cancel the vow renewal. I didn’t spend more than four hundred dollars on three dresses, none of which I like. I don’t want to spend $600 for a thirty minute twilight ceremony. Everything else I purchased; jewelry, shoes, even one of the dresses I can use. I don’t want to take up two days of our week with me being anxious and then spending several hours on renewal day on hair and makeup. I just want this to be our honeymoon and have time to relax.
I am still fighting to get insurance approval for new leg braces. In the meantime, I am gaining weight because I can’t do much.
We are having a candlelight dinner on the beach which would have been our private reception. I feel we can do our own private vow renewal then.
Oddly as excited as I was for months planning everything, life circumstances are making this just not the right time. I feel relieved to just be going on a honeymoon to Jamaica.
P.S. It doesn’t help my anxiety that the last wedding we attended I fell right in front of the bride and groom in the middle of the dance floor with a full plate of food in hand.
