September is peak hurricane season in Mexico; October is lower risk and ;plenty of people travel every year with no problems. Weather-wise, expect hot sunny weather for the most part during the way, with some rain and showers (October and September are both quite wet); but usually rain will be in the form of short, sharp showers that end very quickly. Nights can be cooler, and most people advise bringing a light jacket/jumper/wrap for the evenings this time of year (well, late October at any rate; early October not so much).

Well, the only time I’ve been to Mexico was during hurricane season, aaaaaannnnd… we got a hurricane! If you’re thinking Cancun, then you should be fine even if you do get one. They’re experienced and know how to prepare. We were on the west side of the Yucatan when we got hit, and it was terrible because they are almost never hit hard by hurricanes on that coast, so they were pretty badly affected. Massive and long-lasting power outages, and every. single. road. was badly flooded. We’d wanted to try to explore more of the peninsula but after a couple of days of futile driving, now power, etc., we gave up and headed to Cancun where they had power, A/C, and non-questionable food!
