You can also buy candy jars at stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx, but we found most of ours at thrift stores. As for the amount, one way to do it is to estimate 1/2 – 3/4 lb per person, or you could do it by what looks best filling the jars.

We used about 9 different types of candy for our 120 person buffet.

I posted on another forum recently…party city had mostly all the candy I wanted for relatively. Cheap! They have 14 oz knock off m&m bags, in single colors…tried them, they’re great! Same for suckers, gummy bears (haven’t tried those) and sixlets. You can get coupons through email with them. Sams club has great candy in bulk, better if you’re not doing a color theme (m&ms, skittles, peppermint patty’s, ferrero rochet, starburst, etc). a candy store in my rural ohio own also had jelly Belly’s at $9 a pound and candy stick suckers .20 each. sometimes a candybstore has great prices, esp a mom and pop store like the one i shopped at!Happy candy bar-ing 🙂
