You know your guests best, but I would go for the apps. The guests might get antsy waiting for dinner to be served while you’re taking photos. Also, you don’t want them spending the cocktail hour drinking on an empty stomach!

I agree, I’d prefer appies as a guest. I and many other people ai know are not really sweets people and while we’d eat a few bites of candy, we’d probably get pretty hungry waiting for dinner.

Yea I choose appetizers as well. Candy bars are really fun, but they don’t really go great with drinks. And if all they have is alcohol for a while that could be bad. Perhaps you can make a smaller candy bar, but have cheese and wine for the cocktail hour?

I vote for appetizers.  I usually find that I am more excited for the food than the drinks during cocktail hour, so even though i have a huge sweet tooth, I would rather have appetizers than candy.  Plus… guests drinking on an empty stomach… no bueno!

i agree with everyone else, if you HAVE to choose then def go with the apps.  but honestly if u can swing it you should do both!  we did and it was such a hit! the candy buffet also wasnt that bad, $500 for a shitload of candy (from a bulk candy store in downtown cincinnati, we had 160 guests) and we collected containers from thrift stores and used some vases from our venue.  there was a point when the line for the candy was longer than the line for the bar!  you def can’t skip on apps tho, people need something to munch and put some food in their bellies when they start drinking.

I would say appetizers for sure. The last wedding I went to had a candy bar and not many of the candies were eaten. Candy bars are pretty but gernally people only take a few of their favourites and a lot go to waste/get tossed in the trash.
