We have a family recipe for cranberry relish, which we make with cranberries, celery, orange, canned pineapple, cherry jello, and a few other ingredients in a food processor. It’s the best!

Ocean Spray jellied. I’ve had a few different people’s homemade and never liked it. But I loves me some Ocean Spray “red stuff”.

I’m normally a whole foods gal, but there’s just something about that quivering tower of processed yummyness. Plus it’s just not the same without the can indentation lines! Lol.

My mom make homemade when I was young. we all asked about the canned stuff. She didn’t even try the next year.

I like both! I enjoy making the fresh stuff myself, but aren’t the holidays all about these old school, kind of tacky dishes?

Homemade! its a texture thing as well. My family prefers canned and I’m always happy to oblige. One less thing to cook!

    Beautiful jellied circles of awesomeness.

I’m pretty passionate about this subject, whole berry cranberry sauce is not to be on my Thanksgiving table. Last year I forgot to buy cranberry sauce and sent Darling Husband out last minute and he came back with the canned whole berry stuff, this would not do, he had to go back to the store! I grew up with both actually, my mother is a phenominal cook and makes the homemade stuff, it’s alright, but it just can’t compare to that jellied log.

I don’t eat it anymore. I had way too many UTI’s as a kid. They always make you flush your system with cran juice. But I’ll make it for guests. I make it myself. I remember when I did eat it that I always hated the canned stuff. It tasted like aluminum. Homemade is always better.

I voted for homemade but we never make the cooked sauce- we do a fresh, relish style. Bag of fresh cranberries, whole orange, food processor, sugar to taste! When I took over making it from my grandma, I started using a peeler to get the orange zest, then removing all of the pith and just putting in the zest and flesh of the orange, which cuts a lot of the bitterness, so you end up using less sugar and it still tastes sweeter.

Whatever’s leftover after thanksgiving I put in banana breads and coffee cakes and muffins- yum!

Canned! It’s what I grew up with, and any homemade varieties I’ve had just aren’t the same. Usually too tart.

I know it’s gross but my family loves the jelly. But I’ll eat either one.
