I tried on a TON of rings while looking for my perfect e-ring (after Fiance proposed, he wanted me to pick it out, haha). We both decided that a plain solitaire really looked best on my very petite hands and thin fingers. So, I ended up getting this ring and have zero regrets:

However, a couple of months ago I started to get this “itch” for a more glam ring – yes, a halo. haha. I really don’t think it’s the right “everyday” choice for me, just doesn’t suit my style or personality. BUT, as a special occasion ring, I thought it was a great idea. So I ordered a gorgeous halo ring off Berricle – this one: http://www.berricle.com/round-cubic-zirconia-sterling-silver-2-pc-halo-bridal-ring-set-0-84-ct-jewelry-r723.htm

It arrived a few weeks ago, and I totally adore it. Again, I wouldn’t wear this on a day to day basis, but I wear it on days when I feel like being more “glam” (btw, Fiance and I think it looks “too much” with the matching band, so I’ll probably continue wearing it solo even after we’re married). Since it was also pretty cheap (around $55 with a discount), it may also end up being the ring I take on our honeymoon and other travels.

So, all this to say, you can still get your solitaire ring if you want to – I’d strongly recommend Berricle as a place for high quality “alternate” rings. Good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚

I drooled and dreamed over halos for the longest time, but my Fiance just wasn’t sold. He got me a solitaire and I’ve never looked back.

I still love to eye up other people’s halos though just because they are so dang pretty!

I have always wanted a diamond ring with side stones, so not necessarily a true solitaire. Halo diamond rings don’t say “engagement ring” to me. When I saw a girl with a halo ring for the first time I didn’t realize it was an engagement ring. I have 2 halo gemstone rings that I can wear on other fingers that I love. I just didn’t want that as my forever e-ring.

Absolutely. I’m a lover of all beautiful things. If money were no object, or sparkly things were free, I’d own one of everything. I went through a solitaire stint, spent about a year being envious and regretful over 5 stone rings, an all-halo-all-the-time season. What can I say? I’m human and I want what I can’t have. Wink Now, there have been a couple things that haven’t been short obsessions that we’re now working on acquiring since they’ll be enjoyed in the long term. But it takes almost 6 months for me to get over whatever jewelry craze that’s possessed me.

You could just get a moissanite solitaire, lol!

I have two wedding sets now. A blingy set with a halo and a more down to earth set with a solitaire. Not really a solitaire girl, so it is an antique filigree and has lots of visual interest for me. I go through these cycles when I crave simplicity or the bling ๐Ÿ™‚

@MargaritaVille:  Margarita and OP, similar situation with me liking halos immediately but once my SO pointed out his opinion and I saw more and more pics IRL, I agreed and changed my mind.  Even though I dont have a ring yet, I know it will be a solitaire with something more on the band like extra stones etc.

I can’t believe people think halo rings are “trendy”! They are more timeless than solitaires by far! As a PP said, they have been around since Victorian times or earlier and the solitaire definitely has not!

I think it is normal to have your tastes evolve over the years. I got exactly what I asked for– a solitaire on a pave band. And I loved it. And I still love it. But now 4 years later, if I was choosing now, I think I’d get a plain band. I think at the time I wanted extra-blingy, and now I find more simple settings to be even more beautiful. But who knows what I’ll think in another few years? I’ll never change it but its still always fun to think what I’d get now if I was choosing again ๐Ÿ™‚
