I’ve chosen my dress, but I can’t decide between white and ivory. I am fair-skinned and have blonde hair, so I keep reading and hearing that ivory would be more flattering, however, I think the white looks better. Is white totally taboo for someone with fair skin, or can I go with what I like best?

I think you can go with whatever you like best. I ordered Ivory and White came in and I was happy they made the mistake. If you wear an Ivory dress they say that all your linens, chair covers, etc should also be Ivory. With my caterer, they provide the linens for no additional charge and I didn’t want to pay hundreds of dollars for Ivory linens, so it helped me to make the decision! You can always get a light spray tan for a little glow or maybe get some low lights if you are feeling to “white” 🙂 Good luck!

That’s exactly what everyone told me but it’s your dress 🙂 You should go for something you like! I believe both white and ivory look great on you.

I think ivory looks better on everyone. But, if you feel better/prettier in the white, you should get what will make you feel the best on your wedding day. Plus, not all whites are ‘white’. Is it a diamond white or some other color? Do you have pics of you in the dress?

I’m fair skinned with red hair, and I have heard the same thing (I thought ivory did actually look better on my skin.)
Did you look at pictures of yourself in white vs. ivory dresses? I’m finding that I think differently about things once I see pictures.
Either way, you need to go with what makes you feel most beautiful and comfortable!

I have fair skin and light eyes/light brown hair and although I thought an ivory dress was what I wanted, white looked better on me too. It made my eyes pop more and complimented me so that’s what I got. Get what looks best!…and what you like 🙂

choose the color you feel prettiest in!!! my friend is fair skinned with red hair and whose white, and I know she doesn’t regret it.

Ivory does look better on fair skin usually but maybe try on an ivory dress and then a white one and see what looks better on your skin. Most of the time you cant even tell something is actually ivory anyways unless you put it up to something really white.

hi! I am going with ivory and I think that once you get them out of the store away from all the white dresses they look more white & ivory does look nice on the skin 🙂
here is mine :p

I told my daughter that if you fall in love with a dress…. order it exactly the way you fell in love with it! that was a big mistake from my own wedding…. I loved my dress and it was ivory, but I always thought i needed a white wedding gown, so I ordered it in white and it looked totally different to me when it came in in white! if you loved it in the white then I say stick with it!

I think go with what makes you feel best, but I do NOT think your linens and everything else have to match your dress. That’s absurd! So don’t let that be a factor.

I don’t agree that ivory looks better on everyone. I look terrible in it- it turns my skin yellowish. I am a “winter” and pure white is definitely the right choice for me.
I do think ivory looks better on fairer girls.

I think it depends on what color the “white” is. If it’s a harsh white, ivory might look better with your skin (think a white so white it almost seems to have a bluish tone to it). If it’s a warmer white (almost antique-y), you might be okay. I have blond hair and fair skin and went with the diamond white over white (with my designer, diamond white is somewhere between white-white and ivory).

Ivory definitely doesn’t look better on everyone. I look awful in ivory, so bad in fact that even strangers in the bridal stores have commented on how much better white looks.
I think some fair skinned people can pull off white. If you like the way it looks on you, go for it.

I am very pale also, and I will be ordering my dress in Diamond White.
