I can’t decide whether to have my Maid/Matron of Honor wear a different color dress than the other 5 BMs. The dresses are from Ann Taylor and they came in yesterday. BMs will wear “Nile Blue” and the other color is “Champagne” which is a silver color. I ordered her a blue and champagne and plan on sending back the one I don’t want.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
- Maid/Matron of Honor will feel special that she’s set apart
- The Champagne dress is gorgeous
- Goes well with my color scheme: blue, gray/silver, and yellow.
- The dress is lighter than I expected when it came in. I want to be the only one in white, is it too similiar?
- I want the BMs to be in the same shoes–will I be able to find something that goes with both colors?
Thanks for your help!!!

I like the blue best. Maybe get her a statement necklace or hair piece that is different from the others?

I really like the champagne. All of the girls can wear silver shoes and a matching statment necklace to tie everyone together?

I think the blue is also a color that more women can wear.

I like the blue best. Especially if the Champaigne turned out to be really close to white. Though I really like @Jamcnair‘s idea of getting her a statement jewelry set or something like that to signify her status.

I like both, but if you went with the blue, you could give your Maid/Matron of Honor a sash to wear.

I like the blue, but then again I’m bias because I like uniform color among all bridesmaids.

I love the dresses you selected, and I love both of the colors you’ve chosen. You have excellent taste! 🙂
However, I, personally, am not — and have never been — a fan of dressing the Maid/Matron of Honor differently from the rest of the bridesmaids. To me, it just creates an unbalanced look, and it takes away from the bride being the center of attention in the wedding pics.

I voted to have her in the blue nile. You can still set her apart in another way–perhaps give her a champagne sash, or a sparkly brooch. My girls are all in the same color, but different styles. However, my Maid/Matron of Honor is the only one whose dress has some sparkle on it.

The blue is lovely. As PPs have said, you can definitely set her apart in different ways.

Thanks ladies, these are all great points!
I’ve already bought the Bridesmaid or Best Man gifts–which are matching jewelry sets so it’s too late for the “statement piece.” But I hadn’t thought about giving her a sash–which would set her apart w/o being so dramatic. I agree with alot of you that symmetry will be good for pictures, so I’m leaning toward to the blue.
@Brielle: Thanks! I actually wore this dress myself to an event, which made me decide to order it for the BMs. It’s a beautiful silk organza and very flattering!
If anyone’s interested, the dress retails for around $250 but I ended up getting them for $82 each because they were on sale + an extra 30% off coupon!

Would you mind posting a pic of the Nile Blue color?
I’m looking for my maids and would love to see it in real life!

I prefer the blue color, and I also prefer for the bridesmaids to all be in the same color. Or, if one person is going to wear a different color, then they all should. That’s just my opinion, so you should do what you think looks best.

@hnd6146: Are you selling the champagne one now? If so, what size is it?
