We have decided on an asscher cut solitaire with a classic tiffany setting from miadonna but I’m unsure of what size to get, a 1.5ct or a 2ct. My fingers are quite chubby(size 8.25) so I want something that will look ok. As asscher cuts are not common we haven’t been able to find a jeweller that carries them. We did go to spence diamonds and they had replicas to try on but I think they are off on the sizes cuz the 2ct asscher looked huge, the same as the 2ct round they had but I know with asschers they face up smaller so I don’t think their 2ct asscher is accurate. We plan on upgrading to a real diamond to switch out but for right now we have a baby on the way and I would rather use the extra money for our wedding and to do our renovations on our house and get the real one in a couple years. Opinions and pictures would be helpful!!!

When in doubt go bigger lol

@ethanashley: Have you tried on a 1.75? I have a 1.51 carat round diamond and I adore it but I wouldn’t have said no to a 2 carat either ;). If you plan on adding a diamond later you may want to consider the cost of the additional half carat as the diamond price will go up significantly.
Good luck with the decision and the little one 😉

I think I would go 1.5 just because if you upgrade later to a real diamond (as you say) I wouldn’t want you to be disappointed if it didn’t have the same finger coverage as the one you are getting now. Plus, you might want to save a little now and splurge a little later on something for that new baby! It isn’t very glamorous but I am the more conservative one, financially, in my family. 🙂

@ethanashley: I normally would say ‘bigger is better’ but in this case I have to agree with bnamrs4evr. I wouldn’t like my finger coverage to go down, even if it was to get a real diamond.

Like prior posters, I would recommend that you choose a carat size now that you believe you would be able to afford and willing to purchase if and when you opt to replace the replica stone.

@ethanashley: I think a 2 would be nice!

@ethanashley: I think 2 carats would look better.

We have priced out real diamonds for when we replace it and it isn’t stretching our budget to go with a 2ct asscher stone. I just don’t want it to look tacky having a 2ct stone. If i were to go round I wouldn’t go any bigger then a 1.5ct but again they look bigger then the asscher stones.
The wedding band will be a princess cut eternity band and then we will add a single row round eternity band on top of the engagement ring for my one year anniversary ring.
