I’ll start by saying we have a song. It’s “Crash Into Me” by Dave Matthews Band. We listened to it on repeat when we were 18 for hours…fast forward 9 years and it has been his alarm song since. It’s the only song where we both hear it and just immediately think of the other person. Again–it’s our song. However, for those of you who are familiar with it…if you actually LISTEN to the lyrics…it can sound…not the most romantic? One of the most polarizing lines being “And you come crash into me, and I Come into you.” He doesn’t LITERALLY mean…you know. Additionally, it’s said to be about a peeping-tom. That part I don’t care as much about. But that line…I imagine his Mom hearing it and I cringe. Side note! The song was actually inspired/written to his (Dave Matthew’s) wife…so there’s that?
Besides that, we don’t really listen to love songs. We grew up in the emo era and all of the songs we love are either sad, angry, political, etc. So I’m stuck. My fiance doesn’t seem to care but I don’t know how I feel. I’ve suggested other songs but he just doesn’t want anything else. I even tried pushing him towards “You & Me” by Dave Matthews band but he wouldn’t cling.
Thoughts? Am I overthinking the lyrics? Will anybody REALLY notice? I’ve seen some pretty negative responses on other forums about this song…before reading those I didn’t care as much.
