I’ve officially started to freak out, not about my impending marriage, but about picking a damned ring! I thought I was sure about rose gold, but yesterday I saw another Tacori setting in 18k rose gold and compared it to a 14k rose gold ring from another company — well, the Tacori wasn’t nearly as “pink” as I would like! On the other hand, the little diamond details of my ring would probably stand out much more against the 18k rose gold than it’s white gold equivalent. Or would it?!
Some pictures of the white gold setting I tried on:
And it’s now further complicated by me finding an online dealer that has the white gold ring on clearance for ~$1000 LESS. The rose gold will be ordered from Tacori at the regular retail price. If I get a rose gold e-ring, I will get a Tiffany metro 1mm band in white gold, and if I get white gold, I’ll get the same band in rose gold — either way, I know I’ll be mixing metals. My biggest concern is whether getting my e-ring in rose gold will showcase it’s beautiful details, which are pretty inconspicuous in the white gold/platinum versions.
My boyfriend is ready to make the purchase, and is leaning towards purchasing the rose gold from our local brick & mortar Tacori dealer at full price, but says his biggest concern is me being happy with the ring.
YOUR THOUGHTS? WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Rose gold basket, white gold shank, rose gold wedding band. Mmmm. That would look gorgeous!

Hmmm, I like the idea of a white gold engagement ring and a rose gold wedding band. Classic with a twist!

to customize, we were told it would cost ~$4000 for the setting, and that they would suggest we just get a fully custom ring, and not go with the Tacori.
I love that look too, but I’m worried about the details of the band being lost in white gold. There are two small side stones, and then stones on the basket. My jeweler doesn’t have photos of the rose gold, so I don’t know if that would even be the case. Ah!

Knowing my frugal side, I’d go with the white gold one on clearance and save $1000. That is a lot of money that could be put to other uses, and the while gold is more classic. I’d be worried about growing tired of a rose gold e-ring. While it’s pretty now, I’m not sure I’d still love the look of it in 30 years.

I answered white gold because i think that the pink diamonds would stand out more in a white setting (think contrast, diamonds are not great at picking up color in metal and reflecting them). Plus having the pink wedding band will make your e-ring look very romantic when it’s added on :).

I love the setting! Dream combo would be customized white basket on a rose gold band with rose gold wedding band with diamonds to bring in the white color on the band too.
EDIT: I said white basket so the diamond looks super white in the middle of it, versus the pink basket.
If you wanted to go with the less expensive version i might get the rose gold engagement ring with a white band because lots of gals have white gold e-rings from their SO and add the colored band on their own so you would be a little unique in having the rose gold on your e-ring instead of on the band.
Either way, it’s important to make sure it fits in your guys’ budget, but honestly, you will have this ring and wear it every single day for the rest of your life and you really need to love it! What’s an extra $1000 now in the course of a lifetime? (only if you have it though – i don’t want to give shady financial advice! haha.) Gorgeous set though – super exciting!! Congrats!

My basket setting has diamonds on it and is in white gold. Never seen it in any other metal but what I do know is that the white gold doesn’t take away from the diamonds. They still sparkle well on their own. 🙂

Yes, I think rose gold with the white basket would be AMAZING. My SO is being really flexible and generous with our budget. I’m the one that wants to spend the least amount possible, haha. Thank you for your advice!

The diamonds are actually pretty good quality (I believe F-G, VVSI), so they’re definitely super sparkly. I haven’t seen a picture of the ring in rose gold, so i think that’s where my apprehension is coming from. Thanks for confirming that there will still be lot of sparkle with the white gold. I’m going to go try on a bunch more rings to triple check that this is the one.

I absolutely love your peachy-rose gold ring. I’ve now left the decision to my SO since I can’t make up my mind 🙂
