I always thought I wanted long Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. My colors are navy, gold/champagne and pink. We had kinda picked out a really nice long navy dresses, but then I see wedding pics of girls with short dresses that are very light pink. Here’s some of the wedding details in case that makes a difference- wedding in July at 5 pm in a formal church (gothic style church), Reception at a golf course. Colors- navy, gold/champagne and pink. The BMs will carry mostly white with light pink flowers and I will rock a dark pink bouquet!
Here’s my pro/con list. Please help me decide!
Long: I think it looks more elegant/formal (I mean no offense to those that have chosen shorter dresses) especially since I am having a evening ceremony. If I went with long, the dresses would be navy.
Short: I would go with a very light pink dress which I think is supercute and I would totally wear it again (twin sister is Maid/Matron of Honor so I could steal the dress!) I think the BM’s might wear this dress again over a long navy one. Here’s the major problem- for some reason I don’t like it when girls wear different shoes b/c I automatically look at the shoes instead of the girls. (I know, it’s kinda weird…). There is a huge height difference between the girls. My sisters are 5’10” and won’t wear very high heels. Others are 5’2″ish and will def want to wear heels. Since I would want all the girls to match or somewhat match their shoes to one another and all be the same color- probably dyed pink- this is an added expense for the girls. If it was a long dress, they could wear whatever they wanted!
Any thoughts? Thanks!

I’m thinking something similar to this if I went with short pink dresses.

I know what you mean about long looking more formal but then I think short looks more fun. You could let them choose a dress to ensure they were more likely to wear it again but it be in your colour. I did a post titled Post your Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses so I could look at exactly the pros and cons of short Vs long and matching Vs non-matching plus what parts of the outfit was paid for by brides and Bms.
I’d definetly wear a long navy dress again, especilly for an evening do.

you also need to take in consideration the figure of your bridesmaids. I know I had a problem picking a dress because some would look perfect in it but my heavier bm’s wouldnt so think about the girls wearing it and their self confidence first. good luck!

@CatyLady: Thanks, I will look for that post!
@Williams_delores: Most of my BMs kinda the same size. I have 2 that are mothers, but I think we would run into the same problem if it was long or short.
Still not sure what to do about the shoe issue. Does anybody know of shoes that you can customize the heel height? That would be perfect! Maybe I would pay for the shoes as their gift.

Here’s an idea for the shoe issue. I’ve found that Coloriffics makes several of the same front style of shoe in different heights. Take a look and see if there is anything you might like!

I vote short, especially for a July wedding.
We’re going with short and we’re getting married in October in the Adirondacks. Our guys are wearing brown blazers and dark khakis so I thought long dresses would be too formal with the guys attrire.

Short – especially since the wedding is in the middle of summer. I totally feel you on the matching shoes with short dresses things though – I’m the exact same way! I’ll second the Coloriffics recommendation though. And if you’re worried about costs – shoes and a short dress will probably cost pretty similar to just a long dress (since they wouldn’t need to get matching shoes).

@irin997: I just looked into Coloriffics and they have some great options with similar shoes! I can always pick a few and then have the girls pick the ones they want!
Thanks for all your help bees!! I really think I might change it to short pink dresses!

@Mrs.Cooper I was the opposite of you!!! I always thought short dresses were the way to go but since being on wedding bee and seeing some long Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, im in love (its all a little to late since my wedding is over though….*laugh*)
Bottom line though…your wedding is in July…SHORT. Mine was in July and we had short and the girls were STILL cooking in the hot summer heat….it would porbably be a little cruel to have them in long. 🙂 (I felt the wedding goods were made at me…us poor brides are still in long on a hot day..i almost died of heat!!! wouldnt want to put that on someone else, thats for sure!)
