LOL! I feel you! I really do! I’m a Coke addict and luckily have not hit that intense craving yet. But I’m sure it will hit at some point during this 9months!

Here’s my theory, ONE can of caffeine free Coke once every week or two or month can’t be that bad right?? Of course, some ladies might swoop in here with “scientific” evidence why it’s bad. But hey some ladies drink during pregnancy and I think it’s a no no.

Check with your OB/GYN and listen to them! ๐Ÿ™‚

Talk to your Dr. But according to my midwife there was ONE study done that linked caffeine to premature birth during hte first trimester. I drink tea every day. And I might have a Mt. dew once a month. As long as it is unde rI think it is 200 mg a day then you are fine. Someone else will give statistics, but those are close to the numbers I am sure.

I spoke with my doctor about this since I just can’t quit caffeiene cold turkey.

Her response was that a cup of coffee or a coke a day is OK as long as your total amount is less than 250?MG a day.  Of course they would prefer you to have no caffeiene, but in small amounts it’s OK.

According to APA it’s 200 to 300 mg a day. But I’m trying to stick to under 100MG a day on days I do have some caffeine which has been only 3 days in the past 3 weeks. Such as tea, chocolate, etc.

I just gotta say, thank god it’s not summer. I crave coke way more in the summer! ๐Ÿ˜›

Caffeine Free Coke is pretty nasty. I’m a purist when it comes to my coke, I love the classic. I’ll take what I can get though! ๐Ÿ™‚ Talk to me in 7 months I’m sure I’ll sneak 1 or 2 cans. ๐Ÿ˜›

i havent had children yet so this may mean nothing to you but i found this:

Experts have stated that moderate levels of caffeine have not been found to have a negative effect on pregnancy. The definition of moderate varies anywhere from 150 mg – 300 mg a day. (coke has 34.5mg in a can) *i think those numbers seem high for a daily intake but im no doctor – that being said your can of coke comes way under the 150mg/day so i think you would be fine.

The less caffeine you consume, the better. Some experts say more than 150 mg of caffeine a day is too much, while others say more than 300 mg a day is too much. Avoiding caffeine as much as possible is your safest course of action. If you must get your fix, it is best to discuss this with your health care provider to make the healthiest choice for you and your baby.

@JustlikeHeaven: I’ve had caffeine free coke and it pretty much tastes the same as regular coke.  Why dont you give it a try? My OB also told me  that I could have caffeine in small amounts but not every day and she also told me to avoid it totally if possible.

I say have a coke here and there. That’s what I’m going to do. I LOVE pepsi and I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. I’m 1o weeks now, and if I start to get the urge for one, I’ll have one. I think coke and pepsi only have like around 35 mg of caffeine in them. That seems like nothing compared to the “safe” level they say of 200 mg a day. Especially if you only indulge every once in awhile. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree that caffeine free coke tastes really similar to normal coke.  I can’t taste the difference at all.

Also, are there any caffeine free sodas you like? Sometimes I just really want the “fizz”, not so much the caffeine. I’ve found that root beer or a grape sunkist do the trick for me.

Have a coke. It won’t hurt the baby. And if you are craving it, and you hold off, you won’t be able to stop thinking about it. Or, buy one of those small cans of coke (I think they are 6 oz) and have one of those. You get the taste but it’s not as much as the big can!

All in moderation.
