If your doctor isn’t worried, I wouldn’t worry about it. Talk to him directly about it though. Don’t just wait for him to say something. Some doctors are worried to mention weight to any patient, even when it’s medically concerning. Have you tried eating things that are light, yet fibrous, like air popped popcorn?

It sounds like you are making healthy choices for your snacks and that is all you can really do. As long as you doctor doesn’t have concerns about your weight gain, put the scale away. You are doing what you need to to grow a healthy baby.

@roxy821:  He’ll put you on a specific diet if necessary.

Numbers freak me out too, but I just wanted to say that I saw your bump photo on the bump thread and you looked absolutely gorgeous! So as hard as it is, if you are making healthy choices, staying active, and look awesome- I’d just try to ignore the numbers:)

@roxy821:  Eh, don’t compare yourself to those other pregnant women. Your baby needs what your baby needs and your body reacts only as your body can.

I don’t know how much they suggest you gain anymore, but if the Dr. doesn’t mention it as being a problem, I wouldn’t worry either. When I was pregnant with my first and thought I was doing everything right, my Dr. seemed shocked when I gained 5 lbs. in one week at around 5 or so months. He started asking lots of questions about what I was eating, and MY culprit was Greek salads. I craved them, but didn’t pay attention to how much oil was being used for the dressing and how much feta cheese and hot peppers and eggs…thought it was good for me. Oh well. Once I stopped eating them, my weight gain was more on the normal side, and I only gained 21 lbs. total.

You’ll be fine. Some gain quickly in the beginning and then level off.

@roxy821: oh my gosh your post could have been written by me! I promise you, by our 12 week scan, i had gone from a UK size 8 to a size 14 already. no joke. I’m now 25weeks 6 days and still wearing those size 14s but everywhere else has grown too lol, my boobs have gone up 2 cup sizes, my thighs are like tree trunks, my upper arms are once again flabby lol….and the ridiculous thing is i’m eating really damn healthily! just big portions lol.

when i was younger i struggled with anorexia, and then have been bulimic for 6 years. i actually only managed to fall pregnant after gaining a bit of weight, so when i got pregnant i deecided the best thing to do was to give in to the pregnancy rather than giving in to the eating disorder if that makes sense. i said to myself that my body was for my child, not for looking good or skinny. and  ate whatever i wanted or craved. the first 11 weeks or so were hellish, i didnt have morning sickness, i had truly hideous aversions. so much so that if i thought or saw a food i couldnt stand then i would vomit in my mouth lol! obviously i was trying not to throw up at all so it was hard going. those few weeks i ended up only eating oranges, bran flakes, fake mash potato (‘smash’ flakes) cheddar cheese, baked beans, sour jelly sweets  and asparagus. interesting! ha ha. none of those foods i would have typically eaten in my normal diet but it was what i felt i needed to do. and i ate a lot because i was RAVENOUS. literally.

last time i weighed myself i was up 17 pounds from my 9week weigh in, at which point i was already up 10 pounds from my start weight lol, and since then i havent weighed myself. i’m seeing my midwife on thurs and will probably et weighed so i can let you know the hideous result ha ha!

it gets me down sometimes, truly it does. but in all honesty, we are so incredibly lucky to be blessed with these pregnancies, and our bodies are merely the conduit for these little ones at this point in time, we’re carrying them and giving them all they need. i’m not advocating going crazy and bingeing on 10000 calories a day or anything, but i would rather have a less restricted pregnancy and a good weight gain which will hopefully benefit my child than a skinny pregnancy and a little-r baby when he’s born. just my 2 cents anyways 🙂

I gained somewhere in the neighborhood of 50lbs, give or take (probably give….) with my daughter. I was never sick, but I was stupidly, ravenously hungry through my whole pregnancy. I think by 24 weeks I had gained 17lbs and it snowballed from there. I gained a lot in the last 4 weeks. I was transferred off of the base at 36 weeks to a british hospital and they don’t weight you (and i don’t own a scale), so I don’t know where I ended up. I ate healthier pregnant than I did not and I walked, both on the eliptical and regularly, and did yoga through my whole pregnancy.

In the end, I had a 10lb8oz baby and lost probably 20+ lbs before I even left the hospital because I was really swollen and water weight falls off fast. I’m 6 weeks pp now and I’m wearing my pre-preg jeans again. I have a lot of flab and junk left to lose, but I know it’ll happen. Don’t stress about the weight. I never had any issues and my daughter is perfectly healthy. Every woman in my family has had 9+ lb babies, so I know her size wasn’t because of my eating.

Gaining weight is far better than not eating when you’re hungry when you’re pregnant. Being hungry and craving things is your body telling you what it needs.

@roxy821:  ok i did it, i weighed myself, and i’m officially up 29lbs at 25weeks 6days lol. it’s FINE lol as i keep telling myself 🙂  i read in one maternity book that you gain 1lb a week in the last 14 weeks (the last trimester), so if that is true then i will be looking at a total of 45ish lbs, but i am practically on bedrest with SPD and the only excericse i get is getting up to go to the loo lol. i try and do a little walk around the block eevry day but its getting harder and harder, i can usually manage about a 10minute walk a day and then it feels like my pelvis is going to stab me to death lol so i actually expect to gan a lot more than that. we shall see 🙂
