I have been coming to this site nearly everyday, looking for pictures and advice about weddings and all the many details. I just now have decided to join because my future as a bride in a dress is looking bleak. 🙁
I’m plus size and 5 feet tall with a 400 dollar budget for a wedding dress. Our wedding will be January 5th.
I’ve looked through a bitch load of sites, and have come across the sites that are known as “knockoff” and bad. (here is a list of all the sites you should stay away from! http://www.morilee.com/beware)
In the beginning, all I kept finding was dresses that I fell in love with and that ended up being from a scam website. NOT COOL. And actually really disheartening. I kept looking in vain until I finally said forget it, I’ll just go look at and try the dresses on in person.
I haven’t been able to do that yet, but I’m afraid I’ll find dresses way too expensive for my budget. And if it’s actually within my budget, I’m pretty sure hemming that sucker will drive me out of the budget.
So I came up with the idea of a shorter wedding dress that hopefully should not need to be hemmed. If ya’ll don’t know, winters in Mississippi never get terribly cold, so I’m not real worried about mixing a cold temperature with a short dress.
The thing is, I want to have a formal wedding, but all the short dresses I’ve found have been for more casual affairs. So I turn now to you. PLEASE HELP ME. Pretty pretty please. I feel really sad and desolate because so far I have had absolutely no luck, and it’s really depressing.

How formal is your wedding? I would definitely not have a formal wedding in a short dress. I also would not do a short dress in the winter time unless you’re getting married in the bahamas or another tropical locale. Go visit some bridal boutiques and tell them your budget. They will try to work with you and hemming is not as expensive as you think.

Do you mind me asking what size range you’re looking for? I want to look for you, but I want to make sure it comes in the size you’d need! 🙂

Here’s my dress and it is by a designer called Nataya. It cost me $200, yes, new with tags. I love the unusual color but she has LOADS in white and ivory too. Lots on eBay!

This J Crew wedding dress is $350

Oh that’s a cute dress! OP, have you tried looking at department stores for white dresses? They don’t necessarily need to be wedding gowns to be perfect and formal enough for a wedding.

Igigi works with your size and your budget:
David’s Bridal Sale and Outlet sections have some great buys although sizing is limited in each style
These dresses are only $199
This one is $119

What kind of dress or size range are you looking for?

Could you show us some pics or give links to the kind of dresses you love? There are some very savvy people around here who I bet could help you find something very similar.

this is so flip floppin pretty. I checked out the designer on ebay, and I LOVED the Gatsby dresses. I’m surprised I don’t have slobber all over my keyboard.

We’re date twins! I’m wearing a short dress, my wedding is formal, and it’s in winter…. But It’s themed and the dress fit my theme… O well. I ordered a knock off dress from a seller on ebay, so did a friend of mine, and we were both happy with the outcomes!

BEES! I LOVE YOU!
I love how I got sooo many responses on my first try! Seriously, thanks!!! I’m a street size 18/20 so I reckon I’ll be a dress size 20/22/24. I’m pretty dead set on having a shorter length wedding dress, though. Especially if I can pair it with a cardigan (I wear one every chance I get anyway. :B) Here are some I found that I really liked….
I really really really really really like that one, but I don’t know how it’ll look on my body. I have an hourglass figure and when details or waistlines fall at the wrong place, my body looks distorted and makes me look bigger. :c
this one’s pretty and simple and can definitely go with a wonderful cardigan.
BERTIFUL. just bertiful. Although real talk, I like it. It has a formal feel to it. And it’s downright gorgeous.
And this one I like but I’m scared of because of its tea lengthyness. I am not that tall and lean, although if that model had boobs like mine, she’d look better in the dress 🙂
Those are the only four I’ve found that I liked. Looking back at those dresses makes me realize that I don’t necessarily have a particular style or trend in mind, and for that I’m sorry. It would probably be easier to find a dress if I did.
