My new last name kind of bums me out, besides the fact that it promotes the whole “we’re a team” thing.  I now have the third most common last name in the United States.  Boo.

Oops.  According to howmanyofme.com it’s actually the second most common.

My last name is going to quintuple in length!!

Then again, most of our students call him “Mr R” so maybe it’s actually going to halve in length instead 🙂

My last name is a common males first name. All through school I was called “last name first name” by substitute teachers and it was SOOO annoying. However, my last name is MUCH better than FI’s last name. FI’s last name isn’t a common males first name but it sounds just like one when spoken. We’ve become accustomed to automatically not only spelling it instead of saying it but also spelling it out and using words to associate each letter “P-as in Paul, E-as in elephant”…, you get the idea.

I wish I liked the name more but thats certainly not going to stop be from taking it in 9 months!

@cyndistar3: Well thats stupid. They could easily just keep their maiden name.

I can’t wait for that either:) His name is pretty common and boring in my opinion, but because it belongs to him I <3 it! I wish it was the norm to combine last names…that would make things really interesting lol. I don’t think I’d never not marry someone because of their last name, but I certainly wouldn’t take it (or probably have my kids take it if it was really bad or I knew they’d get tormented for it). Like Hitler…or Butkus (was too similar to Butt kiss).

@mg1363: My biological fathers real last name is… SCHMUCK! When they got married my mother absolutely refused to be a Schmuck and would never allow any future children she had to go through life with that name (my dad was tormented when he was growing up). They came up with a totally different (rather common) last name instead. My fathers sister even legally changed her last name after my parents got married so that she didn’t have to be a Schmuck anymore. Thankfully my mother put her foot down or else I imagine I probably would have been tortured in school.

I can’t wait! According to howmanyofme.com there are only 917 people with my last name now. When it changes, there will be 3,951 people with my new last name.  Both names aren’t that common.

I am going from an uncommon last lame (there are 115 people with my last name, and I am the only one with my first and last name) to a much more common one. I will only have six letters in my last name instead of 11! I am going to miss my last name–it’s a fun one, but I am excited to take on my future husband’s!
