I checked out every company from the known pricey ones to the super cheap ones that advertise all the time. I have a two-door car, so that increases rates. I found that the cheapest for me was through Costco, which is Ameriprise. I haven’t had to call them for anything (thank goodness – knock on wood) but the website is streamline and you can set up auto-pay. They also offer roadside assistance. I think you can get a quote online and you don’t get 10000 harrassing phone calls and emails afterwards asking if you would like to sign up.

Geico. I’ve had great service with them. I got in to an accident and the rep looked at my totaled car and came to my work and printed a check on the spot. It took 1 business day.

@Atalanta: Progressive gave me a quote that was about $200 cheaper than GEICO.

@strawbs:  Bam! My insurance is super high on my own (no idea why, no tickets/accidents, over 25, etc.), but Fiance put me on his for pretty cheap. They even congratulated us on the engagement and told us to call back for more discounts when we’re married.

@vorpalette:  opposite for us. My insurance was real low until my man was put on it. I told him it was his male fault.

I’ve had no issues with Geico, their customer service is great and they offer me the best rates, by far. BUT I suggest to everyone to go to an insurance agent to find car/homeowners, etc insurance for you. You don’t pay them – they get commission from the insurance companies, and they can find the best deal for you. We had an insurance agent find car & homeowners policies for us, and went to call Geico to cancel our policy to go with the new one, and Geico ended up matching their higher coverage and gave us an even cheaper rate – ah the power of retention. 😛 Funny because we had called literally 2 weeks beforehand to see if they could do anything to lower our rates and they basically said we had all the discounts we could qualify for. We stuck with Geico since they lowered our rate significantly, but went with the homeowners insurance that the agent found for us. Win-win!
