My husband and I were planning on starting our registry this weekend and I was wondering if any moms out there have car seat recommendations for us? Did you start with an infant seat and transition to a convertible? Or did you just start with a convertible? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

We started with the infant seat which I found easier in the early months to carry the baby and have a place for him to be when we were out and about. We transitioned to a convertible car seat around 7 months

With DS1 we used a Baby Trend infant seat. I did not like it. But, I’ve found I’m just not a fan of infant seats. With DS2 we skipped the infant seat and went with the convertible Graco MyRide 65. It’s okay. The straps tend to twist though and that is such a PITA to untwist them before buckling him in all the time. DS1 is in a Diono Radian RXT and I love it. It rear faces to 45lbs (rear facing is safest and now recommended until at least 2 years old) and forward faces in a 5 point harness until 80lbs, booster seat until 120lbs. I totally recommend it and can’t wait to get one for DS2.

Don’t know if this response is too late, but… If you’re willing to spend a CHUNK. Of money on car safety (we definitely were), or if money is no object, then I REEEEAAALLLY recommend the Orbit Baby G2 Travel System. We LOOOOOOOVVVE ours. It’s now $1150 (includes the car base, infant seat that doubles as the infant stroller seat, stroller frame, diaper pod that slidesI under the seat in the stroller frame, & the toddler stroller seat), but it’s totally worth it for us. DS is 13 months and still sits comfortably on the car seat (tho’ he’s ready for the toddler stroller seat since he’s so wiggly). And we’ve NEVER had a problem getting him into the seat. Plus, the ability to swivel him 360 degrees makes it really easy to get him in the seat in the car, & easy to avoid sun in the eyes, or to get him to see things as we walk in the stroller. Quality of the product is out of this world good, & so is the company’s customer service. Someone rear-ended us, so we needed to replace the seat & base & Orbit Baby sent us everything right away (got it the next day) with no problems. Pricey, but long-lasting & super convenient & stylish. Our mentality about the cost was: where better to spend the money than on safety & on everyday convenience?
Whatever you choose, good luck & keep us updated!
