Well a cushion is going to run a little smaller (table wise) than something like a round. If i’d known that, i’d have gone a little bigger to compensate. They’re deeper than most cuts, so they just tend to look smaller.

I wear a size 6.5 and I would have zero issues wearing a 2 carat on my happy little finger Laughing. My center stone is a 1 carat for reference, but total weight comes up to 3.75.

If you like big, go big! You’ll always wish you went a little bigger if it’s in budget if you like big stones. Then again, you’re talking to the girl who wears cocktail rings to work just because i like big sparklies, so….

I think I replied to your double post instead of here.  oops.  Here is what I wrote…

I have a similar ring, although it’s a rectangular cushion cut instead of a square.  FI chose it because he thought it looked bigger than the same carat weight in the square shape.  It’s a 1.03C with micropave diamonds, total weight of 1.6C.  My finger size is a 4.75 but the ring in the picture is a size 6.  I have since gotten it resized to fit me better.

I had input on my ring and for a while we were talking about how big the center stone would be.  I tried on some things in the store but when I got home I would forget how it looked, since these mental images get fuzzy after a while.  I found this size chart on a website and I cut the diamond shapes out and taped it on my finger.  It was very helpful, check it out.

Sorry for posting so many pictures but I am trying to illustrate how different it looks at various angles.  Plus seeing it from far away the halo setting makes the ring look bigger.

i have a 2.5 center stone in a halo and my finger is 6.25. i love the way it looks definitely don’t think it’s too big.  but it all depends on your individual preference.  i’d highly recommend going to a jewelery store to try on different sized diamonds.  also remember that other factors such as cut, clarity, etc, will impact how it looks as well.

@sarsah82: I have size 5 fingers and my ring is a 1 carat round with another 1/2 carat in the band in platnium.

I think if you like the 2ct then go for it! I don’t think there is going to be such a difference between the 1.5ct and a 2ct center stone that it will look bad. I guess if they are both great quality I would go for the larger stone.

Holy moly! That’s my ring! Tongue out

Here’s a pic of mine. The center stone is a 2.01 carat cushion cut. My finger is (was) a 6 and 3/4 but now it’s a 6.5 and the ring is kinda loose.

I don’t feel that it’s too big on my finger at all. Good luck!

My finger is 4.5 and carat size is 1. Mine is a three stone, so it takes up the majority of my finger.

@sarsah82: Does your bf know how to properly research diamonds? If not, make sure he (and you) know there is more to a diamond than just carat size. The clarity, color, and cut have a LOT to do with how brilliant a diamond sparkles.

Also, depending on your budget for a diamond, to get a 2.5c stone, you may need to skimp on clarity or color.

Also, make sure he gets a stone that is GIA certified and he should also get the ring appraised right after buying it. The only way you can insure a ring is if you have an appraisal on it as well. With a stone that big you want to be sure it is insured.
