I don’t think there is a “best”.  It is all a matter of preference.  I have a friend that is a size for and has a 2ct, and I think it looks awesome.  Others would find that too big, and some would want larger.  You should go and try things on, so you know how they look on you.

I wear a size 3.5 and I always liked anywhere between .75-1.3 on my finger But that’s only my opinion and what I’d feel comfortable wearing every day.

I have a friend with a size 4 finger, a .3 center stone with a halo that looks lovely on her. Not too large, but still has good finger coverage.

Here is a chart with carat ring size ratios. It’s been on weddingbee a few times. The red section shows the optimal ratios.

The magic 1ct looks great on size 4 and price is more reasonable 🙂

gracendrake:  It depends on a lot of things – the shape and cut of the stone, what you consider to be a pleasing proportion, and whether or not you have a halo, just to name a few. A well-cut stone could face up bigger than one that is poorly cut. A round brilliant will face up bigger than a fancy cut of the same carat weight. You may like the look of a 2-carat diamond, or you may think it’s too big and flashy.

Search for “size 4 finger” on this forum and on Pricescope, and make a note of which rings you find yourself most drawn to and what the carat weights are.

craigslistgirl:  Haha I’m sorry but the “optimal” range on that chart was clearly made by someone who sells diamonds, since according to the chart pretty much everyone needs at least a carat…

Why do you want others to tell you what is “best” on YOUR finger? I suggest you try them on and decide what YOU love since YOU will be wearing it.

Try some different rings on to see what you like! Seeing them actually on your finger will give you a great idea of what’s ideal to you. And it’s fun.

This is a personal preference! There is no “best”  carat weight for any size finger. I have a 1.65 carat round with a halo and s Size 3.5-4 finger. I think it’s the perfect size for me. You need to go try some rings on to see what you like best on your finger.

gracendrake:  Really depends on the ring  Definitely trying out some would be best on determining which would look good on your finger.  I only think round looks good on my finger, but then I never tried on other shapes. Is there a particular style you like or are drawn too?

I have a 1.9 carat round brilliant solitaire on my size 4 finger. I love it so much and would not go any smaller 😀
