@jaykwellan:  I have been in July & August to the DR. We had good weather – it would rain a little bit at night time, and if it did happen to rain during the day, it would be for like, half a min? We’ve had goodluck with weather at those times!

@jaykwellan:  Fiance and I went on a vacation this year to the Virgin Islands, and were there the first week in June. It is technically hurricane season, but the weather was great for us, and it was about half the price since it was low season. I think it rained 1 out of the 8 days, it was nice and warm, and less crowded. I definitely recommend it.

@jaykwellan:  We just got married in Mexico (Isla Mujeres off the coast of Cancun) in July and it was great! It was hot, but in all honesty July was waay hotter in the south than it was on the beach in Mexico. We had a few partly cloudy days, which just made it even more awesome because it wasn’t as hot but still beachy, no rain until the day we left. No hurricane issues at all- although we did have a scare a few weeks before with a tropical storm that never developed.

Just make sure to purchase travel insurance- expedia is what we used & you could cancel for pretty much any reason. It is a risk and a little nerve wracking but I looked up the info for our area and historically they don’t see alot of action until Aug/Sept or later. And the resort was waay less crowded- felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!

We went to Jamaica for the first two weeks of July and it was absolutely gorgeous. We had a few overcast days and I think it rained very briefly (less than 30 minutes) on one or two days, but other than that it was really perfect weather. I don’t think you’ll have any problems!

@jaykwellan:  we went to St. Lucia July 29th and stayed for a week. Weather was great. it was the rainy season….meaning it rained for like 10 seconds and was beautiful the rest of the day.

I guess the question would be – how devestated would you be if it rained on your destination wedding?  I’m guessing your objective is to have a beautiful beach wedding, so if you had to move it inside due to heavy rain how would you feel? light rain?

My point being a few things:

 a) you’re asking guests and family to travel to an expensive (relatively) location

b) take time off or holidays to spend with you at your chosen locale;

and c) it’s down season for a reason.

Many people have probably had great luck but what are the inherent risks?  If you can live with that then it’s probably a worthwhile risk, but if you’re not it might be a bust.  Also, I think you have to consider your potential guests and what you’re asking them to spend time and money on at your request.

Not trying to be a negative nancy, but just trying to give another perspective!  Good luck with planning!

We went to Punta Cana this past summer. We were there June 23-July 1 and even though it was humid and overcast some parts of the day, it was generally still totally beautiful and we spent the whole trip outdoors. It really only rained hard one day, and it was only for a few hours in the afteroon.

Mr TTR & I are semi retired, so we travel a lot.

Atlantic Hurricane Season is actually June 1st to November 30th…

Altho the greatest number and biggest storms happen typically in the months of August – September – and October.

Even if your Island doesn’t get hit by a Hurricane, if there is one nearby (in that they are HUGE Weather Phenomena) chances are HIGH that it will effect your island too… Rain, Wind, maybe the Electricity going out etc.

Not exactly my idea of a romantic / happy time.  (Less so if I am not in a 1st World Country)

As for heat…

July in the Caribbean will be HOT… HOT AS HADES as they say !!

As you are getting much closer to the Equator than say The Carolinas or Florida, and those places are pretty much unbearable come July !!

Very muggy, very humid… generally not all that pleasant.

If I was planning a Honeymoon for the Caribbean it would be for wintertime… when the area is at its best… December thru March.

Is there any way you can post pone your Honeymoon ?  Or maybe look at somewhere less Humid for the timeframe you are considering… New England – or ANYWHERE in Canada is awesome in July.

As for the Domincan Republic… well that is a whole other ball of wax…

I personally won’t be going back there anytime soon… it has HUGE Issues as a 3rd World Country (Political – Social – Economic – Safety – Drinking Water – Disease – Medical etc)

If this leads you confused or overwhelmed (I can understand that), know you can certainly post again and ask more questions.

Hope this helps,
