Hey I’m in the same boat..I am planning a nigerian/caribbean wedding in august 2015. My fiance is  from nigeria and we will be having a traditional nigerian engagment/wedding ceremony the weekend prior to the “white” wedding. I would suggest incorporating the food and music if possible. You can possibly have your guest dress up in ankara that you have picked out too as a peronalized touch

Hello ladies,

Congratulations on your upcoming weddings. i think it’s lovely that are looking to incorporate your other halves traditions in your celebration. As Nigeria is a vast country made up of lots of different “tribes” each region has its own  language, culture and traditions which are totally from each other. Are they Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa or other? Have a look at the weddings on the BellaNijia website. Are there any relatives who can help guide? Nigerians are very proud of their individual culture so may take particular offense if a ceremony is done but not performed properly. Good luck!

dani.sampson.5:  I am Nigerian as well. Try talking with his Mom/Aunties if possible. They can help make things a lot easier for you. I was born in America, so when it comes to the traditional wedding I don’t know much about how things go.. but my Mom/Aunties & my fiance’s Mom who is also Nigerian are helping me.
