It’s going to be HOT in NC and down South in August, but if you dont mind then it will be awesome. I love OBX!! Have you thought about Charleston? One of my favorite cities ever. There’s also Sea Island, GA or Jekyll Island, GA which are both beautiful and quaint.

The beaches in Delawarea (Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany) are awesome and really not far from NJ at all. I also like VA beach and Assateague Island. Even if you’ve been to NE there’s Block Island in Rhode Island, Newport RI or Martha’s Vineyard.

@morkiemama: Yeah, it’s going to be HOT and HUMID, so just be ready for that. Seriously, when you walk outside it’ll be hard to breathe.

Wilmington, NC is a cute little place to visit.  You could also stop in Myrtle Beach if you wanted to.  Just take 17 down the coast and make stops on the way.

I was raised in GA and I currently live in NC. I’ve never been to Charleston, but I had a good friend who lived there for a few years and she LOVED it. I will definitely agree with other posters regarding the weather. It is boiling hot in August and the humidity can be a huge slap in the face (or hair, if that pertains to you) for those who aren’t used to it. Still, all of these areas are gorgeous. Personally, Savannah is my favorite 🙂

If you can’t think of anywhere else to go, I suggest – Maine, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard… places not quite as hot and humid.  🙂

We went to Charleston, SC on our second anniversary to visit friends there. I have to say, I loved it. It’s such a neat old Southern town with tons of beaches, great weather, lots of plantations. We missed going to the tea plantation, but did some of the others. Since I’m from the Midwest, I love a good plantation visit. Charleston is a neat city where it’s both young and hip while being old and historic. There’s Harmony Grill which is awesome, Poe’s for a great lunch/good beer. I’m so glad that we visited our friends and had a blast there. August will be hot for sure. It was lovely and balmy when we visited in October.

It will def be HOT but i think you can handle it.

i would HIGHLY suggest Charleston with Hilton Heand and OBX coming in a close second. Charleston will be a lot more exciting with tons of shopping, nightlife, site seeing – Hilton Head will still give you some things to do but is def more family friendly and OBX is amazing but yet again is more of a vacation destination for families – BUT if you are looking for a nice quiet week on the beach i would recommend it.

Charleston is great though because its the best of both worlds – you can hit the beach in Isle of palms, Sullivans Island or Folly beach (all 10-15 minute drives from downtown) plus you get the history and beauty of historic charleston.

Myrtle has such a special place in my heart, i’ve been going for years but it truely is the pit of SC beaches – i would vote staying away from Myrtle since there are many other great options.

@brox: Poe’s Tavern has som seriously dank burgers! mmmmm i was there two weekends ago and i still dream of that burger.

Triangle Char Bar in West Ashley and the new one on Sullivans is AMAZING! their brunch on sundays is to die for and they have $1 mimosa’s – there are so many amazing restaurants in charelston – def need to check out the pavillion roof top! beautiful views and great food!

@totheislnds: I had some awesome fish tacos there! Did you hit up Taco Boy while you there!?!? Their fried chicken taco is amazing. Our friends took us to some of the best places ever to eat while we there. It didn’t help my waistline, but man was it delicious! Taking a trip to Charleston was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken. It helped that our friends are awesome, so it made it more fun!
