I’m not much of a dessert person, but I do love carrot cake. So does my Fiance. But I never really seen or heard of people having carrot cake for their wedding cake. And I do want everyone to enjoy the cake. What’s your opinion? Should we go with what we like? go with the norm, chocolate, vanilla….? any suggestions?

I’ve never heard of it either…which is why I think you should do it! It would be different, and who doesn’t like carrot cake?

Are you having more than one tier? if so, you could have 1 tier be carrot and then do some “safe” flavors for the others.

@echolove: Duuuuude! I luv carrot cake! And I’m pretty sure that if I had to step over a dying person to get it…I would with little to no regret…if you wedding is in the fall, serve carrot cake with hot cider…I would DIE!

Are you having more than one tier? I would suggest doing another flavor just because carrot cake is one of those flavors that you either love…or you hate. I can’t stand it myself. I’ve been to one wedding where the cake was all carrot cake…blech. Thankfully, the bride had platters of Italian cookies served to each table after the cake was cut and I munched on those instead!

I think your guests would love that. Carrot cake is a very popular option. I have been to weddings where the couple had set up three one tier cakes in different flavors (i.e. white, carrot cake, chocolate, etc.) If you do not want to do that, maybe you could have the classic white cake and have different flavor cupcakes (carrot cake included). If you do have cupcakes though, you will not need as much cake.

I went to a wedding that had 3-4 different flavors of cake and carrot cake was included. I love carrot cake and would like to use that as our cake but not sure if it would please everybody.

Heck yeah! I adore carrot cake and I have a KILLER recipe for it! My SO, who hates carrot cake, can’t get enough of it when I make it lol. Had to practically bribe him to try it but once he did he was hooked.
I’ve never had wedding cake that was good. *sigh* It’s all sucked. Guess I’ve had bad luck in that department. So I think carrot cake is a grand idea, but make sure there are some alternatives because some people really don’t like it.

I personally LOVE it but I would have more than one option… like PPs, I know quite a few people that detest it. You can usually never go wrong with a vanilla/fruity mousse/buttercream option, at least as a backup

@echolove: Carrot cake would be awesome! Go for it. Nothing wrong with vanilla but everyone does that! We’re having red velvet and almond cake so we’re also going the non-traditional route but I think guests will love it!

Carrot cake is seriously one of my favorite cakes, next to TRUE red velvet. I think it’s the cream cheese frosting on both that make me love it so much. I hate buttercream frosting. Blech.

We had it! We had chocolate/vanilla/black forrest/boston cream cupcakes and then authentic carrot cake on the bottom tier of our actaul cake. It was great and our guests loved it.

Thanks Ladies! I’m having a small wedding (50ppl). I do want to please everyone, so I would definitely do different flavors. So many decisions now… one, two, three tier, cupcakes, cupcakes and cake, groom cake…. lol

If not, you can always offer differnt dessert options that are more ‘safe’ like cookies or brownies. I personally LOVE carrot cake! A friend of my just got married and she and her Fiance both loved boston creme cake… so they have a 3 tiered boston creme cake with cupcakes, monogrammed sugar cookies and brownies as alternative options for those who didnt love it as much… but there was literally NO cake left at the end of the night, so i say have your favorite cake, its your day, enjoy it!

I’ve seen it at many weddings, usually only one tier or the grooms cake would be carrot cake, but it was always the first to go. Who doesn’t like carrot cake, that’s just strange!
