Carter for sure. I don’t like Cole at all, maybe if it was Kolton.

Also, if your husband really loves a name I would give that a lot more weight than what your family is rooting for. And you sound on the fence so I would go with his preference since it sounds like he has stronger feelings on it.

ETA: I also think Carter flows better with the middle/last names.

Cole is one of our top picks if we have a boy (maybe DH’s only pick lol) so that would be my preference personally.

Carter is okay too though. Maybe it’s the T towards the ends of both names I don’t care for together? It just seems a bit matchy matchy with the same # of syllables too.

Maybe this sounds dumb, but what really helped Darling Husband and I was to watch a movie or listen to an audio book where the name was used frequently.

Keep both names in mind and see which one fits your little one when he gets here. You might even decide to go with something completely different once you see him.

I like Cole better only because Carter is very popular now and I personally know 3 Carters in my small group ranging in ages from 2-6.

I knew a Cole who was a complete a-hole so my vote is for Carter lol

Ok I’m going to be difficult by saying I like the name Cole better between the two first names, but I like the way Carter Jacob sounds better than I do Cole. If I’m being perfectly honest I think Jacob Cole sounds better than either name.

I like both, and I agree with  courtneysokal , wait until he’s here and decide which one fits best.

lilceeja124 :  I’m out west, but also know several Carter’s under 6 from my hometown in Ohio. FWIW, it’s in the top 30 list for Social Security, so it seems to be huge in the US.

I love the name Cole, very underrated. While I like the sound and the look of it, I must say I also am more partial because of its connection to Charmed, so take that into consideration I guess lol.

I had the exact same reaction as @FutureMrsBex. I much prefer Cole to Carter (Cole makes me think of Cole Porter, while Carter makes me think of Carter Page) but don’t like Cole Jacob as much as Carter Jacob – the rhythm of a two-syllable first name followed by a two-syllable second name sounds better. If you’re committed to the name Jacob, maybe make that his first name?
