- Wedding: October 2015
I have a few questions here about a topic that’s usually considered controversial in the wedding department.
Let me first start off by saying, we ARE providing an entirely open bar to our guests, that’s not even a question.
So since we’re in the very early stages of planning (wedding is next August 2015), we just want to get some insight into everyone’s opinions and what the most cost effective method is for providing alcohol to our guests. We have about 120 people on our list, and we’re calculating all of our prices on the basis that everyone shows up (I know that there is a 99.9% chance of that NOT happening) just to over budget and under pay.
So here’s where our dilemma comes in. The hall that we have booked allows for both a cash bar (which in this case means that the hall is providing the alcohol at $5-$6 per drink) or a corkage bar (which means that WE would supply the alcohol but pay a $6 corkage fee for each individual person). We are soooo lost as to which option to go with.
So my fiancee and I don’t drink so we’re like a lost puppy in the world of alcohol but we still want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves. So let’s say we go with the corkage bar, how much alcohol should we purchase or each type of alcohol (vodka, rum, spirits, beer, etc) and approximately how much does this cost in total?
We aren’t allowed to get the big Cosco sized value bottles of alcohol because they charge a $200 big bottle fee (it’s a health risk for the bartender to have to lift it and pour it all night). But say we’re estimating the amount needed based on the 1.4L bottles (is that even a size? I think that’s what the hall coordinator said).
3bottles- 1.4L Vodka
5-6 cases of beer (half domestic, half imported)
2 bottles- rye
1 bottle tequilla
Well you get the picture
I should note too that our parents (who are paying for the food and alcohol) do not want us limiting drink selection to a few signature drinks. So, while I appreciate that suggestion, sadly it’s not an option.
Lastly, if you went with footing the tab for the entire night, how much did you spend approximately (for both the corkage bar and the “cash bar”)
Thank you all in advance for your help! I appreciate it more than you can imagine.
