My experience was with my custom ring and will differ a little from yours because we had already bought my center diamond and we also provided all of the diamonds for the band. The only diamonds the jeweler provided were the ones in the starburst on the top of my ring. That said, the jeweler wanted us to put 20% down so we did that in cash. They did keep our diamonds so they had them when they were ready to be set and I wasn’t worried about it. You need to be able to trust your jeweler with your stones otherwise it would be better to find a different jeweler you can trust. Our custom process took 4 months and we only made 2 payments in that period. Then when it was finished we paid the remaining balance. Hope this helps you a little bit.

1dqs357:  I paid a small deposit for the custom ring design ($250) and then paid for the diamond in full ($xx,xxx). They did the renderings and, once I approved them, I paid the amount for the setting… I paid about a month ago, and it was definitely a strange feeling sending off the amount of a luxury car to someone I’d not met and something I hadnt seen in person, but I’ve now seen the stone and have trusted the process and it’s worked out fine!

what are you worried about happening? In my instance, if I don’t like the ring etc, I have the opportunity to send it back, so I feel pretty good about it, especially since I know I want to keep the stone.

1dqs357:  usually you pay for the stone upfront if your not purchasing a already set stone in a ring.

20% down on order, balance paid in full when picked up.

Think it depends if you can pick it up (internet versus brick and mortar)

1dqs357:  I wouldn’t be concerned about where they are keeping your stone. While it is with them it is their responsibility.

1dqs357:  They probably have a safe like most jewelers. You should just ask them. I am sure they’ll be happy to put your mind at ease.

hereformybaybee:  I can’t wait to see the finished ring. I was contemplating brilliance.com when I was shopping around too.

lilsweetie:  haha shouldn’t be a problem to share. I used to take pictures for a living, and it’s beautiful, so there should be plenty. Apparently it’ll arrive by July 10!

so as to not fully thread jack — I was on the fence whether or not to pay cash, as the number of miles I was going to earn would be roughly equivalent to the amount I was saving, but I didn’t want to basically finance the ring — there’s a nice satisfaction to paying for it and being done with it!
