So I got an invite in the mail for an early afternoon wedding ceremony with “Casual Reception to follow”. Does ‘casual’ refer to attire you think? Or just a way to say that it’s not dinner and dancing? Should I expect food – it’s right around lunch time?
I figured y’all are wedding expert people. Enlighten me.

I think “reception” implies some sort of food/drink, but in this case probably not a formal served meal. I would guess it’s either casual picnic/barbecue food or appetizers or punch and cake. Maybe have a big breakfast beforehand just in case.

If you’re asking about what to wear, wear something you might wear to church, not to fancy but not everyday jeans tshirt going to the mall kind of thing…

I think it means you won’t be served a full blown meal, but perhaps casual munchy type food. For attire, I think a pretty sundress would be appropriate. Like the other poster said, eat something beforehand just so you won’t be starved if the event there isn’t much food. I think though, they are implying that it will be a casual feel to the reception, not a formal thing.

The only reason I wasn’t positive about this is cause I know the venue and it’s tres chic. But I think a pretty sundress will do the trick regardless of the venue since it’s mid-day, and eating ahead of time just means I’ll get two meals if there’s food served so win-win! 🙂

I think you are right! A day dress is a great idea, and I am sure food will be served.

If I got that I would probably wear a cocktail dress and not assume I’d be fed a full meal.
