Hi, Bees! I’m new around here and currently engaged to be engaged. (We are saving up before we set anything in stone, but planning anyway just to be ahead of the game) We are looking at an intimate, casual destination wedding in Florida, where my parents live. I am considering a casual dress, casual enough I could really wear it on any given day of the week. If I use this as a wedding dress, would it be weird or wrong to wear it as an average dress later on? Or should it be stored away as a keepsake?

I think being able to re-wear your wedding dress would be awesome! I would probably want something a little fancy, maybe something you could wear for special anniversary dinners? Why tuck it away?

I don’t think it would be weird or wrong, but it does make the dress less special. I think it might be cool to save it for anniverseries or special dates though!

not weird or wrong, smart! unless you’re rich, I don’t see a reason to buy a dress that you cannot re-wear

Personally, I would want my wedding dress to be a bit special. If I was wanting a dress that I could wear again, I would probably opt for a non-white evening dress that I could wear out to special events, formal dinners etc but not on an everyday basis.

The author of the Young House Love blog had a backyard wedding, wore a somewhat casual dress she bought a couple days before the wedding, and then dyed it gray after the wedding so she could wear it all the time! She likes the fact that she can wear it over and over again:

@sunsetchristy: That is too cute! My dress is actually cream so I wouldn’t necessarily have to redye it. But I’m torn as to whether being able to wear it out is special because I know it was my wedding dress or if it just makes it boring and loses its charm.

@sunsetchristy: Eep! That is awesome. I have a knee-length, polka dotted Sarah Seven dress that I’ll be wearing for my wedding and have contemplated dying it after the wedding. This post makes me lean towards doing it!
OP, I say if you can and want to wear it again, then do it! I think clothes should be worn instead of hidden away in a closet.

Considering I gave mine away for free, and received it for free, I say any use than JUST one day is AWESOME. If you get the right material you could dye it so it changes the look a bit.

@MissStumptown: Agreed! I’m not spending a fortune on it, but I AM spending money, so I might as well get what I paid for! Here is a link of the dress since I forgot to put it on my original post!

@MariahLynn: What a pretty dress! I don’t think it’ll feel less special if you keep wearing it… if anything, it’ll turn an ordinary day into a special day using it’s wedding magic!

@sunsetchristy: I was going to try and find that exact link to show her. After reading about it, I’m going to redye my reception dress and re-wear it. Not that I’ve found it yet, hehe!

@MariahLynn: That dress is adorable! I say you should wear it again, dyed or not. It’d look great in the fall or winter with a cardigan, tights and a pair if ankle boots!

weird or wrong? I think you should stop worrying what others might think about you. If you look long and hard, you will find a person who would rather die than re-wearing a wedding dress. What do you think?
I think it’s a great plan. Personally, I would consider wearing a dress that I already own anyway, but then again, I’ll use any excuse to buy more dresses!
