The Humane Society here is horrible.  I took a guinea pig to them that just needed its teeth cut, they said if I gave it to them they would just put it down.  It needed one snip on its teeth (normal for pigs who are not given enought to chew on) to allow it to eat and they were going to kill the poor thing.  Luckily I called all over town and there was a vet that would allow me to pay when I got paid, but geez for $30 they were going to kill that poor animal, apparently in Omaha, they don’t treat sick animals there, they just put them down.  I will never never never support that organization again!

What?! And he would have had the money if they had just waited! I’m sorry, that is just inexcusable. I understand that shelters are overrun, underfunded and overworked, but there was NO legitimate reason to put that animal down. Shameful.

What in the f*ck. Soooo they can afford a publicist but $400 to treat a cat is out of the question? I know for a fact my vet would have treated the animal for a small fee.

Oh dear… That’s SOOO sad ๐Ÿ™ At least they’ve made some changes so that hopefully this situation doesn’t happen again??

I think the fact that this cat was really sort of an unofficial service animal just really makes it so much worse. Animals have major therapy power, it sounds like this guy is so lost without his pet. Sad, sad, sad.

@Legallyblondiebride: It wasn’t even my pig, I saved it from someone else.  Poor little dear, she was mine after that.  I was so pissed, but I have heard story after story just like that from them.  They are not about the animals anymore, it is about the business and the $$$$$$.

Yes, I used to volunteer at ACC in NYC and I saw that kind of thing all the time. Tons of people bringing in pets because they couldn’t pay for them anymore and usually if they were old or had any health issues they were just put down right away. But all of those people were actually surrendering their animals, they weren’t asking for help with vet bills or anything. It was rare that I saw an older animal adopted, people always wanted the kittens and puppies ๐Ÿ™

My Fiance and I actually took in a stray chihuahua because the cops were just going to take it to the ASPCA and we feared they would kill him.

@LGenz: My thoughts exactly.  And I really like how they offered him a replacement cat.  WTF?!  How dare they!?
