Our three year old cat likes to make a huge mess with his litter. The first thing I did was invest in those litter catching mats… And the litter still got everywhere!
Then we got a litter box with a cover and door. It at least condensed the litter to directly in front the box, instead of all over. Since we’ve moved, I’ve had to move the litter box out of the bathroom (no room) and into the living room or sunroom (I closed up the sunroom for the winter and moved the litter box into a closet, just a foot away from where his litter box had been). This whole time, litter has been getting everywhere. For a little while I moved the box so the door was facing a wall, to hopefully condense the mess. But still there is litter everywhere. I try to sweep it up often, but I just don’t have time to sweep everyday.
Does anyone have any good tips to prevent the litter from getting everywhere?

One of my boys sometimes scatters litter horrendously – I came to realize part of the problem was he was not comfy – was a little constipated maybe? Since I started being more rigorous about giving him the little hairball remedy/cat lax as directed he is much less forceful – the mats take care of the rest.

Unfortunately I don’t have the name of the brand, but we switched to a type of cat litter that is made from recycled newspaper. Instead of being grainy like most litter, it’s made of larger pellets. What a huge difference it made in the amount of litter being kicked up and tracked all over the floor. It’s also drastically reduced the smell!
