I’m sorry.  My cat started peeing in random places as she got older and we had to confine her to our basement.  Which had my room and so I still spent plenty of time with her as did other family members. But the door to the basement was closed so she couldn’t go upstairs to the main house/living areas.

I also don’t think it’s fair to consider euthanization for a behaviour problem even though I get how difficult the situation is.

I know this sucks, but can you place some painter’s plastic and/or aluminum foil on the bed and couch when not in use?  Hopefully that will train her to stay off them, but if not, then at least it catches the poop?  It sounds like you’re doing everything else right, so for now at least maybe that would help with damage control if you can’t figure out how to change the behaviour…?

No, other than the pooping, there was no other indication that she was sick. She didn’t have all of the typical symptoms of IBD either. Her poop was runnier than it should have been, but I wouldn’t have called it diarrhea at all. She didn’t act like she was in pain, either. Just generally grumpy at times over the last couple of years. She could be very lovey at times, even. I knew there was something “not right”, but didn’t know what it was.  But that’s really it.

LuckyinLove17 :  my cat does that when stressed. Does your son antagonise the cat at all? Pull tails, chase her etc?
