Unfortunately, this is one of those situations that isn’t black and white, so you just have to do what you think is best. You saound like a great fur-mommy, so I’m sur eyou’ll do what you think is best for your LO.
I’m so so sorry 🙁

Oh how awful. I am so sorry to hear about that. If somebody shot my puppy, I don’t even know what I would do but I would probably have to be put in jail when I was done though.

+1000 to this. Before you make the FINAL decision, I would exhaust my options if I were you. Even just for your own piece of mind.

oh you know it. I am fiercely protective of my pets. I got it from my mother who is CRAZY protective of me (her only daughter) and her dogs lol.
Years ago when I was in high school a neighbor of ours complained to animal control about our lab barking too much. She was almost completely an inside dog and she was not the type to just sit around barking all day. The neighbors had started a daycare in their house though so I guess they felt any little bark when she was outside was too much. So we got a letter from animal control stating that we had to either get rid of the dog or have her voicebox removed to inhibit barking!! My mother was furious. The next day when the neighbor was outside raking leaves my mom calmly walked over there and said, “if you mess with my dog I will burn your house down with you in it.” Yes, I know this was highly inappropriate and yes, I know she could have been legally charged for making threats but hey it worked. We never heard another word from them or animal control. Honestly I think the neighbor and his wife were scared to death of my mother after that – they avoided her like the plague!

Just wanted to add in that my boyfriend’s childhood cat was shot clean through with a bullet and survived. In fact, he was fine. BF says the cat had 9 lives because he was shot, run over, and had some other things happen to him and was always fine.

LOL! I love your mom. What a great, strong mama bear she is. Honestly, I would have done exactly the same thing in her situation. People are so noisy. If a dog is outside all day and going nuts, I can see that’s a problem. But barking is one of the ways dogs communicate, so it’s bound to happen the odd time. Maybe if she doesn’t like living as part of society with other people and animals, she should go move an island by herself 😛
We treat our dog like our son. I know the hardcore trainers would tell me that I’m ruining his life, but he seems quite content to me 🙂
