I’m at a loss of what to do here and was hoping to get some insight or ideas from you lovely people 🙂
My cat is a huge food fan, and yesterday morning she refused her breakfast. Wouldn’t even touch treats. She ate about half of her dinner the night before and was playful and happy. I took her to the vet yesterday afternoon because of COURSE I’m going out of town friday afternoon to monday so I wanted to figure this out ASAP. She ate a few treats yesterday and a little dry food right before we went to the vet, and was acting totally normal, very playful and talkative. Vet says everything looks normal, she may have just eaten something she wasn’t supposed to outside that gave her a tummy ache – she gave kitty fluids and anti nausea meds (I’m supposed to give her a second pill tonight and a third one tomorrow).
She didn’t eat dinner, and this morning wouldn’t eat again 🙂 She ate a few treats this morning after thinking about it, but refused dry food, wet food, and tuna. There was also a huge pile of vomit outside our bedroom door this morning with bits of plastic in it – I THINK this was the dog because she got into the garbage two days ago, and it was too big of a pile to be cat puke. But maybe? I’m just at such a loss of what to do, I really want her to start eating and drinking before I leave tomorrow!! Should I go get some new food to try and tempt her? She’s loved her brand of wet and dry food for over a year now, idk why she would suddenly hate it, but maybe she’s just being picky?
Any ideas or help is appreciated!

I guess your vet has checked her teeth right?

So something similar happened with my cat last week. Turned out he ate plastic and we had to have emergency surgery. Did the vet xray her? That’s really important to rule out that she hasn’t tried to eat something she should not have.

As PP said, did the vet xray your cat? Also, could she be constipated? My kitty won’t touch food when she is constipated as it is too uncomfortable for her to eat. If she is constipated, we usually give her a little milk or cream to get things moving, before taking her to the vet.

ktb19 : Certified Vet Tech here. Has she been pooping and peeing? If not, there could be a blockage of some kind, like other people suggested. You can request an xray.
On the other hand, cats can sometimes just stop liking their food for “no reason.” It could be something as simple as that. Try offering her something different and see if she eats it to rule that out.
Cat puke piles can be just as big as dog piles. Trust me on that.

Thanks everyone! I took her back to the vet yesterday per their request – she did some bloodwork (I’ll get the results back today), and thinks it might be an abscess brewing since my cat has had them before. She gave her an antibiotic shot and more fluids last night and this morning she was MUCH more alert and active. She ate some treats and was sniffing around for more so I offered her wet food and she had a little bit! Mostly the juice but hey, at least she was interested. There was also a big pee clump in the litter box (she mostly goes outside, so I’m glad she showed me that LOL).
I’m thinking that probably was her puke (the vet thought so too) and once she got that out and peed she felt better. I did get different flavors of wet food to tempt her, and I’m thinking I might grab some Friskies dry food since thats the brand of treats she’s been eating and loves. I know it’s crap quality, I just want to get calories in her.

Sounds like things are getting better for you! You could also give her single protein treats that have no artificial flavours. They are quite healthy, and cats love them.
