My poor baby! My pug, Oliver, is about 5 and a half years old and I knew one day he would have problems with his eyes, but this is awful! He has also gotten pigmented keratitis stains on his eyes because of his eyelids rolling in, but I have tried to take care of those with antibiotic cream. I noticed his one eye was cloudy and the next day it looked swollen so I took him to the Emergency vet at 12am! They diagnosed him with glaucoma and the next day they told me it was a result of a cataract taking up his whole eye (the good eye has a small cataract that will need to be dealt with someday).
I was given 3 options: treat it with drops/drugs until it got too bad which leads to option #2 of basically getting rid of his eye (although it would look like his eye was still there, it would not be working). And lastly surgery to correct for all sorts of things (fluid behind the eye, making sure his retina does not detach, the cataract in one eye, fixing his eyelid) to the tune of $5000.
Ouch! He is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday and they said he has an 85% chance of getting vision back in that eye for a few years, worth it to me! I just hope he handles the long surgery well and does not have complications afterward. I was wondering if anyone had a dog go through cataract surgery?
