I am hoping you all have some advice for me! I am trying to figure out what is a normal cost per person for catering a wedding in Marin County, in Northern California in October. I am expecting about 70 guests. We do not need fancy food whatsoever, we are ok with family style or buffet style. I’ve spoken to one caterer and they quoted $95.00 per person and this sounds pricey to me. What do you think? Do you have suggestions of a range per person or per event for 70 people? Do you have any catering companies you reccommend?
THANKS A TON!!

I live in northern CA but a good 2+hrs north of marin. We found when looking at caterers that the cheapest we could go was $50/person- and that was at a restaurant we were considering for our venue not even a caterer. the caterers we looked at were about the same price as what you said above. Marin is an extremely expensive area and probably up there with sonoma/napa prices.
Do you already have a venue? Many venues will only allow preapproved caterers and charge you extra for using someone not on their list. Another option is to have the small things diy and put someone in charge of putting it out on a buffet. Simple things you could order from the store like pasta salad, green salads, veggies & dips, etc….

That’s a good idea! The diy stuff….it’s been tricky figuring out what is reasonable in terms of costs since we’ve never hired a caterer before. I’m hoping to get a clearer picture soon though! We have a venue that’s letting us do whatever we want in terms of companies and DIY or hiring outside servers, but the catering companies are what is holding us up! Thanks again for your suggestions!
