Are you set on a caterer yet? Have you received RSVPs back? You may have invited 150 people but may get 120 yes RSVPs. What area are you in? Can you type out your current menu? It’s hard to advise without more information….for example, I don’t know if the issue is that you’ve hired an expensive caterer or that you’ve increased your guest list by so many. I also don’t know if there’s lots of leeway for tweaking your menu or if it’s already down to reasonably priced basics- in which case you may have to look at another option altogether.

It’s hard to give very much advice, without a little more detail. In general though, if you were planning on a plated meal, switching to a buffet should save you money. Additionally, limiting the number of meal choices will save money. You could also consider cutting your bar from open bar to beer and wine only.

I agree with sparkosity.. You could go with a buffet style to save money or cut the number of meal choices. Ifyou haven’t received final numbers from the RSVP’s you still may be okay with what you have set already. You want really know until you have your final guest count just how on or off budget you may be for the caterer. The caterer may also work with you if you have more than what was initially intended but you have to let them know in advance your guest list has increased. If you have to go with buffet style just use more cost effective items that you are serving a chicken option is typically cheaper than some cuts of beef (steak).

“My catering budget was set with 100 people in mind but I have 150 guests. What should I do without cutting my list? “

Get more money. A 50% increase in headcount is not the kind of gap you can make up by downgrading the filet to hanger steak or dropping some of your cocktail food.
