So exciting; I think we’ve found our caterer! Trying to schedule a tasting right now.
She does custom menus rather than having us pick from a standard list, so we’ve been emailing ideas and sample menus back and forth. We decided to go with country French cuisine.
We are going to do cocktail hour with 4-5 hors d’ouerves, then dinner will have 3 entrees with 3 different side dish pairings. At the moment we are thinking chicken, fish, and vegetarian/vegan (We have a lot of guests who do not eat beef or pork for religious reasons). Then a fruit/cheese course (and wedding cake later).
Anyhow, she said generally, for her tastings couples select 2 hors d’ouerves, 1-2 entrees and 2-3 sides. And she changes $150 and up for a tasting.
At the moment, we are negotiating to taste more options. I mean, I don’t need to taste every single menu item, but I need to taste more than 2 things!!! I’m perfectly happy to pay a larger fee for the tasting. Food is very important to us and we are willing to splurge to feed our guests well.
Any tips for the catering tasting? How did you handle it if you didn’t like something or wanted to give feedback (ie, ask for changes). Is it normal to have a 2nd tasting to verify requested changes have been executed?
