- Wedding: June 2011
I just got a thank you note from our Caterer and I thought I would pass on the review of them to My midwestern Bees.
Many of you know that we had a tough financial time right before our wedding and my dad was nice enough to jump in and help. He booked a caterer for us which was a grocery store chain, I was horrified that I had to go that route, but in the end was more than THRILLED.
Hy Vee grocery stores recently got celebrity chef Curtis Stone to be an endorser and along with the endorsment they started putting real chefs in all the stores. In the meeting with the catering manager she asked me to go over the menu, but nothing on the menu was the type of food that I wanted. Then she told me that they can make anything that I want just to send her a list and they will make it. I also asked them about plates, napkins, etc…no problem for them. I didn’t want typical paper plates, so for $1 per person, they got me the really nice heavy clear plastic ones, the silverware that looks like real silverware, and the nice heavy linen like napkins.
Darling Husband and I spent hours scouring the internet and sent them the recipes from sites. Some of them were rather intense but that didn’t even phase them.
I did make one mistake when I hired them, I checked the wrong box and wasn’t paying the best attention to the emails from them (their communication was super great btw) and unintentionally forgoed the people to serve for us – oops. It worked out ok, but it was totally my fault. She asked me like 10 times if I was sure and every time I missed it.
The food was delivered by the chefs and it was packaged so well that it was hot all night. What little we got to taste was freaking AMAZING! I can not tell you how many compliments we got on the food. There was hardly anything left even though we ordered way more than what we were expecting to need. DHs friends kept telling me how stuffed they were as they were popping more food in their mouths.
We also ordered all our liquor (venue was BYOB) with them, coffee, tea, and flowers for the moms as we got a 10% discount if you order from three sections, so basically that made the flowers, table settings, and the mixers for the alcohol free (if not alittle more). They brought all the cups and sides for the coffee and tea and it looked so nice.
At the end of the night the crew from HyVee came back and picked up all the stuff, which was one less thing we had to clean up. They also packaged up all the left over food to take home.
I have to say they were one of my two favorite vendors that we dealt with. They were johnny on the spot with communication and the food was better than any of the caterers that we tried last year. The price FREAKING AMAZING, we ended up with just over 100 guests ( I think 120 ), we ordered for 144, and the price was right at $2200. We ordered 12 different appetizers, some with seafood so those were alittle more. For everything that they did and that we received – AWESOME!!!!!
If you are in the midwest and have a HyVee grocery near you, I would Highly recommend giving them a call and see if they are a store with a chef (all stores will have them by the end of the year, from what we were told). The best Happy Mistake from our wedding!
