Has anyone had a Catholic wedding in Buffalo, NY? We met with the priest of a local church and booked our date. The cost breakdown was told to us as follows:$100 – Church, $100 – Priest, $150 – Organist, so a total of $350. Is that normal for the area? I was actually surprised how much under budget it was! We will include tips for the alter servers the day of as well. Any words of advice from Catholic Buffalo brides? Should I expect to pay extra for the rehersal? The office lady didn’t mention that.

Hi! I’m from Buffalo too! While I’m not having a Catholic ceremony myself, That seems on par with what friends have paid, not just locally, but across the country too. I would ask at the office about the rehearsal, but I would guess that’s included.

I”m not from Buffalo but from what other priests have said, they do not want people to view the church as a venue. If you are not a member of the church, you have to pay more, which is around $500. The church i’m getting married in doesn’t even make us make for the service that will be provided. They told us we can donate however much we want.

For the record, my Fiance just moved up to Buffalo (I’m from Toronto) and he is joining this particular parish. So I don’t know if that changes anything.

sorry for the typo.. I mean church where I will be getting married in doesn’t make us pay for the service. I asked around and found that most couples donate about $500. I did look at another church which require non-parishioner to pay a flat rate of $500. Then we would have to pay for the priest, the organist, the wedding coordinator, and the altar boys. In general most churches are not asking a whole lot for the service. However, from what other people have told me, they do expect some kind of donation on top of the fees.

I am getting married at St. Louis Church in Buffalo, they are charging us $400, no priest fee (well we are going to give him a gift) since he is a FI’s family friend. We are getting an string quartet for $500 and the organist i’m not sure how much he is.

I think it depends on the church. Some churches charge different rates depending on if you are a member of their parish or not.

I’m from Buffalo also!
But my we were told that we don’t need to pay for the church (just a donation) Since I am a member. and also the priest, but we are using a family frascian rather then the priest he cost $75. and the orgaist is $75.
