Hey Bees! I am having a Catholic wedding but my priest says we can’t do a full mass (aka no communion). My question is, what do we do for the elements of the ceremony? Readings? etc? Anybody in a similar situation?

So sorry I did not mean to post two threads! My internet is flaking out on me.

Did you recieve a booklet of readings, such as “Together for Life”?

It basically follows the structure of the Mass through the Liturgy of the Word, but then after the Rite of Marriage skips the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We had our Prayers of the Faithful after the marriage part and then a blessing and then it was over. So you have all the regular readings, plus POF, and a homily. I would say ours was about 35 min total.
Like PP says, “Together for Life” lays it out very clearly. It’s a super helpful booklet!

the Together for Life booklet that Garnety mentioned breaks it down pretty clearly. catholicweddinghelp.com also has most of the info in the book :]

Thanks! I have never heard of that book!

We are not having a full Mass since I am not Catholic and about half of our guests are not Catholic. We went to one church and the first thing the priest gave us was the “Together for Life” book. At the second church (where we are getting married), the wedding coordinator sent us a packet of information that included the readings in “Together for Life,” but not the other notes in the book.
You will have: first reading, psalm (sung or responsorial), second reading, gospel, homily, Rite of Marriage, and Prayers of the Faithful. You can choose to do the Unity Candle, flowers for Mary, or any other cultural traditions (we are doing the cord and the veil, and maybe coins). Hopfeully the priest or church wedding coordinator can help you out as you get closer to the date.

We are also doing a Catholic wedding outside mass since I am not catholic nor are most of our guests. As PP mentioned, the Together for Life book is very helpful. Here is our ceremony outline:
Old Testament Reading
Song (in place of a Psalm. My dad is an accomplished vocalist so I want him to sing and our priest said this would be a good place to sustitute in a song.)
New Testament Reading
Rite of Marriage
Prayer of the Faithful

@medsie35: Your church may give you this or a similar booklet closer to your date, but you can buy it now on Amazon, it’s only $3.95 plus shipping. It really goes through everything. There is a special edition for marriage outside of mass Together For Life
