So I will be getting married in May in a traditional Catholic Ceremony with the mass. So the issues I am having is that we are required to basically kneel most of the mass (when you would traditionally sit if you were just a guest). I have a bad knee and cant do the kneeling for more than a minute or 2. The wedding coordinator at the church said they could provide us chairs to sit if we needed it and kneel if we didn’t. Did anyone else do this? If you did, at which parts did you sit vs kneel. I mean I am fine kneeling for the communion part but dont want to have to kneel for like the entire 1st and 2nd readings plus homily lol

I personally am not doing a Catholic wedding but I have been to very tradiional weddings in Colombia (we are very Catholic) and the brides were able to sit instead of kneel and the priest had no issue with it. The bride and groom both had smaller cushioned seats they sat on and they kneeled for communion only…
that is an example of a friends wedding

@krstino1012: im worried about this, as i have very bad knees too. i attended a new years eve mass with fis family and towards the end there was over 20 mins straight kneeling (it was a very long mass generally). after fifteen mins i had to get up as it was just too painful and even afterwards i had problems walking. im going to talk to the priest about it and see if we can do what the pp suggested

I was worried about this too because I have a bum knee too. Thankfully we had a set of chairs and kneelers they use for weddings, so we only kneeled during the parts you normally would during The Liturgury of the Eucharist.

i didn’t kneel for anything! my priest didn’t even mention it.
for most of the ceremony we were on chairs toward the side of the altar.
for communion we walked over to where he was preparing the hosts and took communion standing

We didn’t kneel at all. We were given the option of sitting instead of kneeling which I was very thankful for. I had visions of kneeling on the skirt of my strapless dress and pulling it down!

At my wedding we only knelt for the Eucharistic prayer – same part where you kneel at an ordinary Sunday Mass. We had nice comfy kneelers too. I have seen many brides just stay seated if there are no kneelers – on the other hand I have seen brides kneel through the whole Mass! No way could I have done that! I was in awe.

My back was shot week before my wedding I was so afraid to kneel or sit. Turns out we actually stood up more than anything. Also the mass FLIES by.. I had full mass with a choir and it felt like 20 min!

At our church, for the full mass wedding, the bride and groom sit. It is only during the shorter ceremony at the church where the bride and groom kneel. I wouldn’t worry about it, I bet they have had this issue before. Just talk with your Priest.
