- Wedding: September 2013
My fiance and I are having an interfaith wedding (I am Catholic, he is Jewish). We are planning on a neutral site wedding and having both a rabbi and a priest.
I understand that during the Catholic marriage prep we will have to work with a priest and go to Pre-Cana. I know one of the requirements is that I will have to promise to do the best I can to raise my children Catholic, which I am ok with and so is my fiance, however we would like to raise them with equal understanding of both religions. There is also a baby naming/baptism ceremony we are considering.
I am the more religious one in the relationship but I am terrified of meeting with a priest and going to pre-Cana (even if the priests we will talk to have been recommended as being very open to interfaith marriages) because we want our children to have this upbringing and also because I don’t go to church every Sunday.
Has anyone had any experience with the Catholic/Jewish wedding prep in Chicago? Just wondering how it went and maybe who the rabbi or priest was that you worked with. I’m starting to freak out and I haven’t even emailed any potential officiants yet.
