We all know there is potential scam involved anytime we purchase or sell online. I wanted to share an experience with you that I figured out today regarding oncewed.com. I have a wedding dress listed for sale on the site and recieved my first email from someone inquiring. I was so excited and so quick to hit reply! Unlike Tradesy.com where messaging stays within the website…Oncewed.com sends you the direct email from the person inquiring. So naturally, and excitedly, I hit “reply” directly from my email account. He would not have had my email account if I had not replied. The problem with this, other than privacy is, some people (scammers) might have found out this is the way Oncewed.com alerts sellers of inquiries and the smart scammer knows you probably used the same email account for your PayPal account as you did your account with the site you are selling your dress from annnnd that you have to hit reply to respond! Tricky tricky I know! But be smart ladies! Do not reply to potential buyers if it is your PayPal account email! Just use that as a general rule when selling anything, anywhere! Scammers can hack your account if they know your PayPal email.
Also, one other tidbit I learned…only ship to the verified address they have with PayPal (the one linked to their account). Otherwise, they can tell you it’s a present for someone and ship it to their address. Well, in doing that, the scammer can tell PayPal they never recieved the item and PayPal withdrawls the money from you account and “refunds” it back to them (because they will not cover you if you ship to an un-verified address). So, they just ended up with your money and you are without the item.
Hope this helps someone!!!
