I’ve heard it’s nice but kinda far to go off the resort on excursions.   We usually go to veradero

@sherryberry:  I’ve been to Cayo Coco maybe 7-8 times.  I’ve stayed at a few different hotels (El Senador, Melia, Sol, Playa Coco).

The beaches are wonderful, but it is a very isolated island.  Locals are not even allowed on Cayo Coco if they aren’t working.  They are bussed in morning and night.  So there isn’t really much off the resort.

The food in Cuba in general is not the greatest.  But the drinks are good and flowing.

You will have a great time I am sure.

@sherryberry:  i was there a long time ago.  it was actually cayo guillermo.  i think i stayed at an iberostar resort.  they do have some speed boat/snorkling tours that are really fun and nearby.

I loved Cuba but the resorts bored us so much. We didn’t do Cayo Coco but we went to Varadero and there was nothing there but resorts. So if you want to do something other than drink and lie on the beach then it might not be for you. I lovad Havana (so much atmosphere) and vinales (absolutely beautiful)

@sherryberry:  I haven’t heard the best about the Blau, I once biked over for the day and spent some time there.

My fave hotel was El Senador and I went several times there.  I’m pretty sure it’s called something else, it was New Husband Krystal after it was El Senador and may have another name now.  I haven’t been in a few years.

Overall, if you are just looking to relax, not see anything of actual Cuba, and just chill out then Cayo Coco is perfect.  But there are definite downsides as well.

If its your first time to Cuba, you should stay somewhere where you can get to Havana.  You should not miss a day trip there for your first time.

I’ve been to Cayo Coco, and stayed at the TRYP. Although it was beautiful, it was not excatily to my taste. I prefer Varadero by a long shot. There is so much more to do and see. We honeymooned at the Iberostar Varadero and it was amazing. Like others have said the food is not the greaters but you make due.

I really depends on what you are looking for. Cayo Coco is quiet, isolated and romantic. If you are looking more for activities, social environment and more of a night scene Varadero is more your place.
